Default $4.6 Million Luka Doncic Card: "it doesn't really matter if I signed it."

In Monday's November 1st New York Times on page D4 there is a full page discussion about whether the signature on Luka Doncic's $4.6 million card is authentic. The most striking quote from the article, to me at least, was from Nick Fiorella, the entrepreneur who purchased the card. Fiorella said, "To me, if it's him or his mom or whatever, it's always going to be his one-of-one. If he becomes a transcendent player, it doesn't really matter if I signed it."

We're seeing more and more that truth, authenticity and originality (meaning something is in it's original state in this case) are not important to a wide swath of buyers.

Wow that is real scary.
Just shows that the new money coming in is in many cases doing it more for the show of it, the showing off/bragging rights of it, and money because they have it.

Perhaps that means Joe Jackson signed items by his wife will now sky rocket in price. Lol

There is nothing more sickening than manufactured "rarity". Oh wait. NFTs.

That article was ridiculous and irresponsibly written. The author links to a social media post that shows Luka signing his name with the more squiggly version of his signature, but fails to link to even one of the many known examples where Luka also signs with the more loopy "Lulu" version of his signature. This conspiracy theory has been thoroughly debunked. There is photo and video evidence of him signing both ways posted all over the internet. All this guy had to do was perform a simple Google search. Unless, of course, he had an agenda. In which case, home run.

It's Nick Fiorella's quote that worries me much moreso than the spurious claims. I guess if he was secure in the knowledge that it's legit, it could just be a frustrated sarcastic reaction. Having grown up in North Jersey I know a lot of people who would've said something similar "I don't care if his freakin' Mom signed it, I got it and it's worth millions, ya *%$*^#" instead of arguing. But for an interview with a major newspaper most of them would've actually explained why they were confident.

Slab queens and money whores.

Why don't they just cut to the chase and post screenshots of bank account balances-- why bother with sportscards?

Same idea as to some people... Who cares if that PSA-8 Wagner was trimmed or not, it is still one-of-one, the best looking Wagner regardless.

If I signed my name a thousand times each year, I'm pretty sure people would see big differences between all of them.

Pee-pee size fights are not new to the hobby. What is relatively new is the contestants fundamentally not caring if the items they bought are as advertised.

Agreed. I have to sign my name 25-30 times every day at work. My signature changes with the wind.
