Default Saco River Auction Part 2

Looks like the second tranche of the Saco River Find is now up for viewing on their sight.

There were some high prices today, on a relative basis higher in my opinion than the first auction. The raw lots brought a lot more than the first auction. I think bidders realized that many of the raw lots in the first auction were in good condition and when graded they received 4's and 5's. I bid on a raw lot of 17 EDPG commons and thought I had a good chance bidding 1300. Figured after commish and grading I'd be paying about 100 a card. Thought there were some 3's and 4's in there not any 5's due to centering and other issues.

Not even close. It went for $2400 before the juice!!! Thats about 175 a card (some doubles in there too) after the juice and grading. Doesn't seem like much of a deal to me.

I won one lot, but I got smoked on most of the lots I bid on. Prices definitely were higher for this second auction.

I'm wondering with the flood of high grade EPDG's will due to the market value of these backs. There seem to be quite a lot from this find...not that I'm complaining as it's one of my favorite backs.

I just got back from the auction---prices did go higher this time--especially on the raw lots---the last auction they were going $500-600 for 10 card lots, this time $1000-1300---I did win the Babe Ruth/Gehrig Baseball and was pleased to get the Carl Lundgren SGC 60 Cubs card $1600 before the juice--I Also won the Christy Mathewson Dark Cap card--paid top dollar @ $1400 but it is a beauty--Won another 15 cards or so and the 1912 Red Sox program--Had a blast--Small on site bidders, but we were serious and held our own with the phone bidders---The cards are really beautiful and I look forward to the 3rd run next month. I bid on 2 items....received notification that both bids were received.

Saw that there was an additional bid on the first card, but only one bid on the 2nd....yet in my shopping card it shows that I lost both cards.

How does that happen?

Last time I bid with these folks!

Anybody here win lot 176? I was interested to know if the Rhodes was a fact 25 or 30. I couldn't tell from the scans on my phone and don't have a computer with me. If anyone here won the lot I would be interested in the Rhodes if it is a factory 25.

I thought the prices were very high for most all the T206's.

The prices are high only if there are readily located substitutes. If not, the prices are what the market will bear.

True, however, if there are several buyers for the lots because there is an expectation that the cards can be sold profitably on an individual basis, and that is the reason for the higher lot prices, it does not necessarily translate into higher prices for individual cards. A similar increased demand must exist for the individual cards to support/rationalize the prices paid for the raw lots.
