Cigar S cards? information on scarcity

I hope that I have the name right on this but I can't recall. I know that this was discussed in an earlier thread but I can't seem to find it. Mastro has a couple of lots of them and also has a lot with just the Kelly card. If everyone knows what I mean - sorry about sounding atupid on these but I can't get to the auction because it is blocked through the hospital server - but does anyone know about these cards? I remember only really seeing one on ebay in the last year or so for sale. How rare are they and does the crude pencil drawing make these cards not as popular? I kinda like them but they seem almost impossible to find.

Bryan, I think what you are referring to is the Number 7 Cigars set (n526) issued in 1889. These come with two back advertisements, one for "Number 7 Cigars", the other for "Diamond S Cigars". While I'm no expert on these, my understanding is that they are quite rare, but usually less expensive than other 19th century sets featuring the same players simply because they drawings are so crude. I'm sure others will have more to add, I just wanted to get the ball rolling.

They are tough to find and not particularly lusted after. Unlike, say, G&B or Lone Jacks, which are very tough but of greater interest to more collectors. There are only 15 subjects, with several HOFers, and still relatively affordable. Most people get one as a type piece. I decided to complete the set. Seth at 19th Century Only kept tabs on the combined reported membership population figures of most 19th century issues not that long ago. I don't know if those figures are still available.

There was a trimmed one that just so on ebay for $99. I was thinking about bidding but kinda forgot about it.
