Default Sanella Ruth

A PSA 8 recently sold on ebay for $208. Why is there such a lack of demand for this card? Someone told me that this card used to sell for significantly more than it does now....is that true? Thanks for any input.

Default 2 simple reasons

It was made in Germany, so many collectors aren't interested in it.

It (taking the 4 varieties as one) is probably the most common RUth card from his playing days.

In the past, especially before ebay it was a pretty big deal. But mostly because it was from Germany, and few of them had made it to the US.
Getting one from Germany wasn't easy, you had to know someone there, or someone that traveled there a lot and had time to look for one.

Once venues like Ebay made international sales of collectibles a common thing for nearly everyone it became a much more common card.

Like them or not, Ebay has had a huge impact on nearly every collecting hobby - Opening international markets, making it readily apparent just how much of the common stuff is out there, as well as just how little of the more difficult stuff is around.

Default Sanella Babe Ruth

Here is my card.....it is probably the most affordable vintage Ruth card in the hobby. I know enough German to
understand certain words on the back of this card. Anyhow, do we have a Net54er who is fluent in German, so
we can get a translation of the back info on this card ?

beautiful color image at the Polo Grounds. I read somewhere, long ago, about this issue possibly being reproduced long after 1933.

Default Is das nicht ein Babe Ruth card? Ja, das ist ein Babe Ruth card!

Awful hard to decipher that old German orthography. I submitted this to an online translator (www.katzenjammerkids.com):

And this is what I got:
Babe Ruth, the American baseball king when blow. The space for pasting down this image is the key word Ruth in the manual of the sport releases. This manual, the space for 112 various colorful Sammelbilder contains are in alphabetical disorder on 120 seiten exclusion on the whole field of Sports and is also with more than a hundred monochrome images. It is against sending of 70 pfennig in stamps to Sanella No. 125 Berlin postage-free delivered. Address clearly specify these Sport bilder receiving the inlet Sanella Margarine and zwarje an image on 1/2 pound. A special Taudzentrale is from February 1933 to exchange about sehlender pictures using.

I had a PSA7 once and there's nothing deficient in its looks. It's better looking than many, if not most of his other period cards. Sometimes a card is cheap because it's ugly and cheap looking, but this is a nice looker.

Pre eBay it used to be considered scarce and would sell for over $1000. Now it is easily the most common vintage Ruth card IMO.

I have owned about 15-20 of them over the years, and many of the books with glued sets too.

PS.
The Astra back variation is actually a rare card.

Default Ruth pose

This sort of looks like the pose too. I am in no way affiliated with, nor do I know, the seller of this item...
