The photos were taken from an iphone. There is no real gloss to the card. The light is causing some from the photo.

Bad news, I hope you can get a refund. Card stock and coloring are off.

The card was stored inside of an old book that had some darker pages. Could have maybe bleed into the card?

It is also perfectly centered, which is at least a yellow flag, if not a red flag on an ungraded, higher end vintage card. Just my opinion....

I'd say yellow flag as well...perfectly centered and perfectly rounded corners...not great. I like the coloring ok. Worth sending in or at least showing it to others in person.

I said the exact same thing. It sort of looks ok but I can't imagine a perfectly centered one by random. That is near impossible itself. However, that all said, now that I study it more it does seem to be off centered a little top to bottom....still am very suspicious but not 100% (maybe others can be 100% from the scan)

And compared to legit ones on eBay, the font and/or clarity of the copyright doesn't look good, even allowing for the cell phone pic

And what's the reference to Chubb Hookings? That's not on other legitimate copies...

I didn't like the corner wear at all, but the Chubb Hookings text seals the deal on it being 100% fake.

Smell the paper. Old paper has that "old paper smell". If it's truly vintage, it'll have that mildew scent.

Great catch Judson.
The fact that the person reproducing this card took the time to make sure people in the future could identify the card as a recent issue was the responsible thing to do.
I understand that reproductions and "fantasy" cards have a place but it is in my view completely irresponsible to issue these items without clearly marking them as reproduction or as a fantasy card.

If I remember correctly, I have seen other 1938 Goudey reprint cards that have had the text on back changed as well, or perhaps it was just Joe.

It should be mandatory that all reprints reference 'Chubb Hookings' somewhere on the card.

"And then? And then when I walked down the street people would've looked and they would've said there goes Chubb Hookings, the best there ever was in this game."
