Not pre-war but a bad scam that some one will lose a lot of money on if it gets completed.

I don't think this card even exists in this grade.

this Mantle would be worth around $400,000 - $550,000. Seems odd.

Edited to say: And NO paypal offered, which i can see why with the fees. But, to send that much money to Sydney and find out its a fake, WOW.

Seller's last deal 11/05.

"Private"

Low Feedback.

No paypal.

All the telltale signs of a scam.

Might someone just call SGC and ask them if they have in fact graded this card?

It's not very often that you see a scam that is this transparent. The bids that are in place are almost certainly shills anyway.

Edited to say: Didn't SGC and PSA grade the Mantle reprints at one point?

The winner either has to pick it up or it will be sent by courier yet the seller somehow came up with $8.01 for the shipping charge.

Emailed with Sean at SGC and it is a scam. They are trying to shut it down but you know how eBay operates.

Does anyone know how or where on the SGC site you can verify a serial #?

I've looked all over & either can't find it or am not looking in the right place!

correct me if i'm wrong but isnt "cash on delivery" where you get the item from the post man (or whomever delivers it) and pay at the same time?? why would someone offer that for such a large transaction?

I don't even think it is a real Mantle- it looks like a repro. The whole thing is photoshopped.

We could bid on it as a group and then call his BS. If it's legit he wouldn't mind a third party escrow to hold both the money and the card then distribute accordingly.

Its a common reprint from 1996. It has major design differences a 3 year old can see

The whole photo has been cropped (gap above hat, the letter "R" was removed or cropped from uniform).

The name/logo plate was moved up slightly as it now extends into the bat on Mantle's shoulder and covers more of his hand. Also the "K" bat in the "Yankees" logo is missing the bottom part that goes into the yellow.

Its a common reprint, and my guess it is graded SGC98 but the flip was messed with (or scan was doctored) and the word 1996 reprint was removed. I believe all the authentic 1952 cards graded by SGC will say "High #" below the players name. I cant find a scan of a graded 1996 Topps reprint, but I know from the list at SGC that they do grade the reprints. This is definitely one of the 1996 reprints, I compared it to a couple on eBay.

don't offer 'CASH' on delivery.....they offer COD which is COLLECT on delivery. They no longer accept Cash as payment upon delivery--especially for this amount. Too risky for drivers. Not sure about DHL........card is worth about $1.50........

There's a crack on the top right of the SGC case. I reported the auction to the AFP, but I have no clue if they are interested in investigating it further--they would have to work with ebay to obtain the CI of the seller. Did anyone manage to jot down the seller's ID just in case it gets listed again?

It most likely is a doctored scan/label.

The card is a 1996 Topps reprint graded by SGC as a SGC98.

The SGC Label originally read something like this

1996 TOPPS
#311 MICKEY MANTLE
1952 TOPPS

it was photoshoped to look like this (in scan notice the "96" was obviously changed to "52")

1952 TOPPS
#311 MICKEY MANTLE

authentic 1952 cards will have a label like this

1952 TOPPS
#311 MICKEY MANTLE
ROOKIE High#

Here is the card that is in the slab.

UNBELIEVABLE!!

Same guy now has a '51 Bowman Mantle up and says something about the label being tampered with!

That card is so trimmed, he may as well have cut it in half. Not to mention I question the authenticity... Imagine, a trimmed counterfeit!
