Default I tried.....but another fake

I was hoping this back stamp was going to be on a real card, alas, it was fake when I got it in hand. The seller said no refunds but still did take this one back, though he insists it's real.. it's not.

For the record, everything looked good when I got it. I put it under a high magnification and it looked ok....I put it under a black light, it passed that. However, it failed the "feel the paper between two fingers" test miserably. Not even close and I am sure of it. It didn't feel smooth and had the sort of rough, new-reprint cardboard feel. I have had numerous others like it, sent them in to all of the grading companies, and they always came back counterfeit. Now I quit sending them in for a second opinion.

Well worth the shot . You can get any rubber stamp made you want on the streets of Manila and Seoul for $2.00 . ( while you watch ) .

I didn't know about the lot, but I would have begged off given the "c 1926" in the back bottom right of the card.

To me it was all about the card being real. Had it been then I would have kept it......the c 1926 by the stamp didn't bother me....

Nice try Leon-- it's hard to land the big ones if you don't throw your line in the water.

I too found the c. 1926 suspicious--as if it was a hobby remake down the road where the maker was guessing as to when the initial card had been issued. I am also routinely skeptical about stamped-backs.

What did it for me was the seller's remark that the white blotches were part of the original photograph. I highly doubt they were, and while I don't collect the e121s, I have seen many and don't recall the Veach having that photo flaw--more importantly, the diagonal white line in the upper left part of the photo sure looks to me like this is a copy/photograph of another card that had a crease there, and the blotches were paper loss.

Hopefully the card disappears from the market or is least honestly listed as a repro/fake, although I won't hold my breath.
