Default T202 Cobb/Jennings middle photo

Posted By: steve

The T202 Triple Folder with Cobb/Jennings and Cobb sliding into 3rd is so classic. This is, perhaps, the most famous of all Cobb photo's.

When was the historic photo taken (year)? And is the card the first "commercial" use of the photo? Finally, Is this particular card recognized as the most treasured/valuable/desireable of all T202's?

Thanks, Steve

It was taken in 1909 at Hilltop park. The player Cobb is sliding into is Jimmy Austin.

Lichtman always manages to post the same minute as someone else.

I think he's got this "Shining" thing!

The photo appears w/ 3 different combinations of side panels (each combination is deemed a distinct card)
Of those three, the combination of Cobb and his Manager Hugh Jennings (HOF)is considered the "best."
Also, I would guess that most of the center photos in the set were taken during the 1911 regular and post-season. I've never really checked though....An interesting project perhaps.

Whats interesting is that this is actually a cropped picture. The REAL pic is from a ways back and slightly off centered. Its interesting also to note the way cobb is sliding. It almost seems like its from a different direction than what it really is. As he is sliding into third (turned to the right, it really shows how he was putting his full body into knocking Jimmy Austin over.

I also know there is a lot of versions that have a ball doctored in right by Austin's glove.

Wow! I'm sitting here laughing at it, but he probably should have gone to jail for that.
