Hi Everyone,

I have collected sports cards for some time but due to previous time constraints, I am new to posting on these boards. Some of you may recognize my name from past purchase I've made on eBay under the username buygradedr and comiclink or through private transactions. Others of you have seen ads in the current Sports Market Report for SportsCardLink and you may be wondering what it is. Either way, I thought it was a good time to introduce myself and SportsCardLink http://www.sportscardlink.com . The site, launched on opening day, specializes in vintage and high-grade professionally graded sports cards (PSA, SGC, GAI, BGS) - Goudey, Play Ball, Topps, Bowman, Leaf, more obscure 1920's cards, and so on. http://www.sportscardlink.com/forsale.asp you can Buy, Sell and Bid on (submit offers on) vintage sports cards. Some of you are already familiar with
ComicLink http://www.comiclink.com/forsale.asp , which I founded in 1996 and which specializes in vintage, professionally graded comic books. SportsCardLink works the same way but for sports cards.

SportsCardLink sellers have already listed quite a few vintage cards on the site, for example:

19th Century Cards (e.g. 1895 N300 Kid Nichols PSA 8, 1887 Allen & Ginter Jack Dempsey PSA 8)
Tobacco Cards (e.g. T206 Cy Young SGC 50, T205 Christy Mathewson PSA 7)
20's to 30's: (e.g. 1914 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb PSA 6, 1922 & 1928 B&W Babe Ruth's both in SGC 80, 1933 Goudey Ruth & Gehrig, a few 1939 Williams & DiMaggio's)
40's to 50's: (Williams, DiMaggio, Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Bill Russell, Johnny Unitas, etc.)
60's and up: (HOF'ers and high-grades)

My goal is for SportsCardLink to be a good source for buyers to fill holes in their collection and an additional selling tool for sellers.

I also want to mention that I had a nice discussion with Leon Luckey today and just purchased banner advertising from him which will appears shortly on this site. I think this forum area is a great resource to support and will add exposure for SportsCardLink as well.

I just spent the last 30 minutes or so browsing your site. I really like your layout. Its easy to get around and find things your looking for. Congrats on the new site and hard work that was obviously put into it.

I think Josh (hi Josh) is running a fine site and company. He doesn't know about the ways of Net54 yet but will learn quickly. His tag line, with all of the info, will not always appear on his posts on the board. He has been very respectful of board protocol and very easy to work with and a nice person.....Trust me..I know these things from speaking with different people concerning board issues. He wants to fit in and I am sure he will. I wish he and his company the best.....regards

Last night I was looking throught the site and decided to put a bid on a Matty Dark Cap. The bid was competitive but I certainly wasn't sure if it would be accepted. Lo and behold I get an e-mail today indicating that my bid had been accepted. I now will be buying my most expensive T206 off of SportsCardLink (and as I think about it my most expensive card ever....I'm not a heavy hitter).

I'll certainly let everyone know how it goes.

This is really interesting and an a nice alternative to Ebay and the auction houses. But I have 3 questions.

1) You say the following..."we suggest that you place a buy order to increase your chances of obtaining the item"....why is it when you hit the buy order you only increase your chances? Shouldn't it be a done deal then?

2) The non-sports card market has skyrocketed recently. Any chance of having a non-sports section? Maybe pre-war only to keep out the shiny crap.

3) Wouldn't it be better to leave a bid that was rejected (maybe gray it out) so another person a day later oesn't come on an put in the same or lesser bid. This could go on for a long time and annoy the seller who in turn stops replying.

Interesting. I registered and placed a bid last night on a Ruth card and your system automatically transfered me to the checkout. Does that mean my bid was automatically accepted? I left the system before it proceeded to that point.

*It is worded that way for three reasons. First, the chances are greater that the user will obtain the item if he places a buy order instead of a bid. I think what you were touching on, though, is how can someone who places a buy order for an item not get the item. If a buy order is placed by more than one person, the first person to place the buy order will get the item. Also, let's say the card is owned by a dealer, who goes to a convention over the weekend and sells a card. While he is at the show, a buyer places an order for the same card on SportsCardLink. When the dealer comes back to the SportsCardLink buy order, the SportsCardLink buyer gets notified that it is no longer available.

2) The non-sports card market has skyrocketed recently. Any chance of having a non-sports section? Maybe pre-war only to keep out the shiny crap.

*Yes! A few people have touched on the need for a non-sports section and I am thinking about it. There is certainly enough crossover. If anyone would like to sell vintage non-sports cards, then certainly let me know. It may happen sooner rather than later if we get some good stuff.

*That is actually the way it works now. The bid does stay up there so sellers don't get annoyed and bidders know it is pointless to bid less than the prior bid.

James - Unless you proceeded through the checkout process after you placed a bid, or after you finished bidding on other cards as well, your bid on the Ruth card would not have registered. -Josh

After buying and selling on ComicLink for almost 5 years, I bought my first card from Sportscardlink (T206)and cannot wait until Sportslink becomes a force in the card market. I also listed a few cards this weekend which was easier than listing on Ebay and didnt cost anything to list.
