Default Old Judge Humor Found in an old magazine

Hit some garage sales this morning and cleaned up on some old Mad Magazines for the 1950's....there were a few other magazines much like Mad in the lot and this came from a magazine called Ballyhoo put out by Dell in 1948. Just thought you guys would like to see this.

I own only one OJ, and that's of California Brown, who looks a lot like Oswald Smlitch

Funny stuff, "has been on relief from the past five adminstrations."
"Can't commit and erroe, he's a Christian Scientist"

Last edited by mybuddyinc; 05-22-2009 at 12:32 PM. Reason: correct spelling of "Smlitch"

Dan- I love Mads from the 50's. Did you get an issue #24? That's the first one in the current format (1-23 were more like comic books).

Barry, I did indeed....I got issues #24, 25, 28 (two of them), 29 and 30. There were some Mad like magazines in the lot besides "Ballyhoo", there were two issues of "Snafu" and two issues of "Crazy, Man, Crazy". They'll all hit ebay, but I have to read 'em first.

Those were the glory days of Mad...and issue #24 should garner a nice premium. You have the best antique markets in your neck of the woods.

Nope...didn't know there was a Mad magazine with Mantle on it. I'd like to see that one.

It's a Fall 1956 issue, with a very busy cartoon on the cover jammed with a few dozen famous personalities...including the Mick. I actually thought it was issue #30, but I guess I'm wrong.

Barry, actually you're almost right....Issue #30 has Alfred E. Neuman on the cover, but on the back cover I do see Mickey Mantle in the crowd of personalities....if you hadn't mentioned it I might not have even noticed.

Then that's it... I just went on ebay and saw cover #27, which has Casey Stengel and some other baseball personalities. So Mantle is on the back cover...still pretty cool.
