Default Help Identifying Catcher In Barney Stein Photo

This 8 x 10 glossy original photo by Barney Stein shows a play at home plate with (apparently) Carl Furillo sliding (safe if the umpire's hands are an indication) and Billy Cox as the batter at the time. It's an Ebbets Field game given the Bums' white uniforms.

I'd probably date the photo in 1955 given that Cox was batting a couple of spots below Furillo in the batting order, but that's pretty speculative.

Any ideas based on stockings, etc as to who the catcher was, or at least the visiting team? IDing the home plate umpire would be incredible

Default Found The Answers

Seems that another copy of this photo exists - the catcher is Joe Garagiola, St. Louis Cardinals and the Ump is Billy Stewart. Year is 1951.

June 5, 1951, bottom of 9th in 2-2 game. Garagiola entered game in the 9th replacing Del Rice as catcher. Furillo walks, Campanella hits a line-drive double to center field. Furillo scores from first, beating Peanuts Lowery's throw to Garagiola. Great pic from when baseball was a great game.
