Curious of the darker edges. I would not want it personally, but it could be the scan etc. It is in a PSA holder so it must be legit.....hmmmm.

hey leon-
this card is reminiscent of the gelman "fire sale" t206's.
seller has had several nice cobbs available recently...
I believe it is real, but it sold for more than I thought it would.

Default Cobb

I was watching it - something about it didn't seem quite right. Can't put finger on it. I haven't seen a Pied Fact 42 in this card come up before - I didn't know there were any?

There are a few but the others are not trimmed like this one. Top border and to the left is trimmed.

I was watching this card and thought that it was a great price for a card with such a clean portrait.

There was one sold recently- maybe in the Wheatland auction? And I know Jaime has one in his back run.

As for this card, it looks real, and I think that it sold for a pretty low price.

Default Red Cobb

Nice example. The red Cobb is one of the more common 42's yet one of the most popular. Good but fair price.

I was watching the "Green" Cobb in particular, It had a nice front, but the back either had some staining or else. It was hanging in the 8-900 range..i was pondering a bid.
Also another board member, that I Pm'ed was was also watching the 'green' -I don't know if he bid or not.
BTW- I did see the 'RED" Cobb...I passed on it, not saying anything was wrong with it, maybe better eye appeal was what I was looking for or a more rare back.

I was watching the Green Cobb as well but lucked up last night and finally got my first Cobb. Its a PSA 2(MK) with a SC Overprint Factory 42. The only marking is a pencil mark at the top. I was thrilled to finally get one!!

I agree with Adam, it's one of the most common 42's. There was a survey on net54 several years ago about the Red Cobb backs, and piedmont 42, if memory serves had a dozen or so examples. I can't seem to locate that thread, but I believe Ted started it.

Here you go Mike......a blast from the past......

You can check-out this entire red Cobb survey......

Or, the final results (7-13-2009)

OK folks, final update on this survey. I'm reprising this survey for those new members who have not seen it;
and, for all that might be interested in this most popular white-bordered Tobacco card.

Twelve new Red Cobb's have been reported to bring this survey up to 301 samples of the T206 red Cobb. A
new PIEDMONT 460 Factory 42 input is included....we now have tallied 13 unique inputs of this rare back.

These three T206 backs have yet to be confirmed......anyone here have any of these ?

BROAD LEAF 350

Red HINDU

UZIT

NOTE......The Red Cobb was NOT printed with the AMERICAN BEAUTY 460 back.

I am fascinated by this subject. Is there a Sovereign 150 Red Cobb or was it strictly in 350 and 460?

Never mind. The Green Portrait was in the Sov 150.

Not a great scan, but I don't think that's "staining" on the back of the greenie. Looks like it was removed from a scrapbook, and that's glue with a little bit of scrapbook paper mixed in.

Ted, Jaime has a Red Hindu/ Cobb in his back run. It's in his thread "meet the Cobbs."

I know of at least 7 Red Hindu Cobb's.... 1-2 were included in the Southern Fairway find.

Be well Brian

PS I agree with Adam...
