Default A t206 set Question

Posted By: jamie

I know the answer varies greatly with condition... but does anyone know how much I should try to get... if I am selling the complete 520 cards all at once as a lot... for the most past in poor condition with about 25% in G or VG.. 75% ungraded... and the 25% that is graded are all sgc 10s or 20s or psa 1's, just looking for what a ballpark low number would be and a high number..
Thanks Jamie

Need more information.

Does the group include Wagner (Pittsburg), Plank, Magie, Demmitt (St. Louis) and/or O'Hara (St. Louis)? Are there any rare backs?

I would assume there is no Wagner, Plank or Magie. I think Peter is in the ballpark (15-25k). The range would depend largely on the condition of the HOFs and rarities, particularly the key HOFs like Cobb, Matty, Johnson, and Young (and to a lesser extent, Speaker and Lajoie). If many of those are closer to the vg range than the poor range, the value of the set goes up quickly.

Jamie,
I have been observing with much appreciation your ravenous attack on the Monster over the last few months and must applaud your efforts.
I personally am hoping that you hold onto the set and never let the Monster go. You may find that upgrading over the years keeps you tied to the Monster. But if you must sell, I would think that the value is nearer the 25k with the 2 variations you just mentioned in hand, depending a bit on just how poor your large number of poors are, i.e. real beaters may hurt the overall value a bit.

all the best,
barry

Barry,,,

haha yea its been a real obsession over the last 2 months.... one that my girlfriend hasnt appreciated.. something about me caring more about the monster than her.. haha oh well I am hoping to never have to sell it and I am not planning on it what so ever.. I was really just wondering what the hell the whole thing is worth with 520 together... Thanks for noticing how hard I have been working on it

glad to hear that you're on board for the long haul!!!
you're fortunate that your girlfriend has been relatively ok with your obsession. my wife has been supportive for many years, thankfully.

A recent sale of a low grade set that was almost entirely raw went for 20k on ebay. Having a quarter of the cards graded ought to push you close to 22-24k IMO.

Nice work on putting it together so quickly!

I echo Michaels sentiments.....an amazing and mind boggling accomplishment congratulations.

If I had to guess I'd say one of your lots must have been really big...250-300 cards?

Thanks guys... 3 main purchases helped me out.. one lot for 141 cards that only cost me $1000.. including Gandil and alot of tough commons... another for $375 which included 17 Hofers that I was told was worth about 3-4 times what I paid... and lastly I lot that I bought with 168 cards for 2500 where I only needed about 90 of those I was able to sell off the doubles for 1050.. and the 90 that I needed had a bunch of blank back Sl'ers and some rare backs like red hindu...

Neat story. I'm curious as to how you found the lots. Especially the one with the blank backs and red hindu. Was it off ebay? Here? Antique store/local find.

I understand if you don't want to say but I'd love to know as I just never seem to see lots offered like that. The red hindu and sl blank backs were probably worth close to the total of the whole lot with the rest of the cards being sweet gravy! Congrats again!

Scott,
Most of the guys I met from this website.. just really nice guys selling their dups and were happy to try and help a young collector (im 25) try to get to 520... but the lot your talking about with the blank backs was on ebay.. heres the link... I picked the cards up in person in NYC and the guy told me that they are his bosses card who was a big collector... he was the guy who bought the psa 7 doyle nat'l for like 400k and sold it for like 500k.. or at least thats what he told me.. let me know what you think of the auction page.. all the Slers that you see without "Oldmill" typed next to it were the blank backs

One thing I can say is that the seller is reputable imo and sells a lot of T206's. I've bought from him in the past. At one point last year he was selling massive amounts of graded T206's. Maybe part of his bosses collection or a huge consignment.

Two of his lots came from me. The 141 commons and the HOF lot. I saw his offer to buy lots of T206s on the BST. We exchanged a number of emails that night, and a few days later We met at a McDonalds in Newark NJ.
Yes, Jamie is young And extremely enthusiastic about collecting T206s. I was more than happy to help him. Did he get a good deal from me? yes, But the cards cost me a song many years ago. The money I received is going towards a big screen TV.
