Default President Obama's Bracket

See how your doing against your president. As of this post he would be tied for 2nd place. At 150 pts.

Another crap performance by a Big East team in Providence (this time Villanova) who has played in this venue every yr since the Big East was formed & even before that!

That should have been a big advantage to both Villanova & GTown!

Has any team in collegiate history choked more than the Jayhawk basketball team? They did it again to the Panthers. The brackets are going to be funky.

Unless there is a huge upset winner of the national title this year at least half of the Net54 just lost their shot at the Hal Chase Trophy.

JP,

Honestly not sure you'll have enough points even if Kansas State wins it all. Does anyone else have them making the finals, but losing? If so, you might need an upset or two to further bust their bracket. As long as you're within 320 of the leader going into the championship game, you're good. If you do win it, it's the greatest comeback ever and exactly what March Madness is all about.

Good luck!

-Ryan

Go Cornell.

Although I haven't live in NJ fo 8 years, I still own two Princeton season tickets four rows behind the PU bench. The one thing that always hurt the old Princeton/Penn teams in the tourney was lack of size. The Big Red have some big boys up front. Kentucky's gonna have their hands full.

In the Possible Points Remaining column I'm in second place! Of course I think the guy ahead of me also has Kentucky picked to win it all so if they do I probably still can't win.

In the West both 1's, both 2's, both 3's and both 4's have been eliminated. The lowest seed left is a 5.

I've got Baylor and West Virginia in the Final 4. trying to see if I can climb out of 60th place and make a run If Tennessee and Baylor both win tomorrow and Baylor slips in to the championship game, it ought to destroy the remianing brackets.

The early rounds don't matter so much as the final rounds. The points are stacked towards those that guess the later and final rounds.

This is proof (as we Hooisers say) that even a blind squirrel will find an acorn every once in a while. Sadly, I had Kansas winning the whole thing so I will enjoy being on top of the leaderboard while it lasts.

Go Bulter!

Go Baylor! (even though I picked Duke)

I like to see "other" teams win the NCAA rather than the usual suspects.

I could be wrong, and feel free to peruse the official standings here, but this is how I see the Net54 pool playing out:

If Duke beats Butler:

1. stonegrasmere (W. Stone) -- 1,240 points
2. theskyisblue23 (m. neal) -- 1,160 points
T3. LA.Lakers. (J. Garner) -- 1,020 points
T3. Scott T (S. Opottamus) -- 1,020 points
(Tiebreaker to be used to determine third place)

If Butler beats Duke:

1. Scott T (S. Opottamus) -- 1,020 points
2. stonegrasmere (W. Stone) -- 920 points
3. brian-nolff (b. nolff) -- 880 points

Good luck to the contenders; hope it's a good game. (The above projections are not official.)

I am not anti-Duke, nor have I understood the hatred of the Blue Devils (not on this board per se, but in general), but I will be rooting for Butler because as a native Hoosier, it is my duty.

That being said...

Duke 73
Butler 58

I am also dreading the pre-game and the inevitable "David vs. Goliath" and "Hoosier II" comments from the announcers.

Scott,

You have to grow up in North Carolina. In my neighborhood, the pickup games were always between groups of kids who had an affinity with either Wake Forest, N. C. State, Duke or Carolina. I remember the heated rivalry between Frank McGuire (later Dean Smith) and Vic Bubas. My best friends were Duke and Wake Forest fans. Of course, I don't really hate Duke, I have just gotten used to saying that for 50 years.

Edited to add I do despise that weasel headed coach of theirs.

Just kidding

I'm just happy to still be on the first page of the rankings for Net54. Unfortunately there are over 1.6 million brackets ahead of me overall, but who's counting?

It's been a great tournament though, Go Butler!

This is looking like the last year of the 64 team tourney so I hope everyone enjoyed it. With the 96 team tourney next year there will be 32 teams getting a bye and at least 32 teams which don't deserve a bid. Why not just let everybody in as long as you are going to take 6-12 Big East teams next year?
I do like the idea of rewarding regular season conference champs with an automatic bid as well as the tournament champs if you are opening it up to 96 teams. I also like the elimination of the "play-in" game.

Congrats to stonegrasmere (W. Stone), the winner of the 2010 Net54 NCAA Tournament pool with 1,240 points.

theskyisblue23 (m. neal) finished second with 1,160 points.

LA.Lakers. (J. Garner) and Scott T (S. Opottamus) tied for third place with 1,020 points.

For purposes of the awarding of prizes, which can be seen on the first post of this thread, LA.Lakers. (J. Garner) takes third place. A fourth card will be added to the prize pool later today when I get home, and I'll be in contact with the four winners. W. Stone will have his choice of the four cards, m. neal will pick next, then J. Garner, with S. Opottamus getting the card that's remaining. W. Stone also will receive the traveling Hal Chase trophy card to hold for one year. Rhett Yeakley, last year's winner and current holder of the card, will be in touch with the winner.

Click here for final standings of the pool.

Even if you're not a Duke fan you should be happy about the outcome because it prevented this headline, which you would have been subjected to ad nauseam:

Butler did it!

Default Thanks Rob!

Big thanks to Rob for running this tourney and offering prizes. This will be my first card thats older than 1950! I read this board all the time but have yet to jump into the pool of super oldies for fear of never being able to come back up for air. I have a feeling this is going to jump start a new area of collecting for me and I'm excited and worried all at the same time! So thanks again Rob, you probably just started me collecting in a new area and cost me tons of dough at the same time!!

Sorry for the delay.

Below are the four cards/prizes, with the late addition being a 1921 Holsum Bread of Steve O'Neill. The exhibit card is a 1921 of Steve O'Neil graded 50/4 by SGC.

I thought it would be fun to let the winners post their picks, so stonegrasmere (W. Stone), who finished in first place, has the first choice. (There's no paper loss on any of the backs, and only the DeLong Warneke has any toning to speak of on the back.)

So, stonegrasmere (W. Stone), feel free to post your choice, then we will move on to the second-place finisher. (All winners, please e-mail or PM me the addresses to which you'd like your cards mailed.)

Thanks.
