Even UPS can get things wrong at times. My son bought a guitar and UPS put the guitar inside our front door which was left open and no one was home. His comment, and he was just 15 at the time, was "What if I told the dealer I never received the guitar? Could I get another one for free?" Well, first we had a little talk about ethics and honesty, but to tell you the truth we all know there are people out there who are dishonest and would do such a thing.

That guitar could have been left at the wrong house, it could have been stolen if it had been left outside, etc...

It was supposed to have delivery confirmed and they just left it assuming the right people would get it. It's a wonder there aren't more problems.

Risk of loss shifts to the buyer once the seller completes satisfactory delivery (i.e. posts the item).

From a buyer's perspective, what if seller claims tht payment was never received, and buyer says, "I mailed the payment to you and you didn't pay for insurance on it so I am not reponsible for you not receiving it. Too bad, just send me my card."

How is that different from a seller saying they mailed it and the buyer didn't pay for insrance? Don't forget that the seller chose the method of shipment.

Buyer is responsible for delivering payment to seller. Seller is repsonaible for delivering item to buyer.

In most (if not all) states, the rules are different from shipping product versus remitting payment.

I disagree with the analogy above that a buyer incurs a risk by mailing payment, so all's fair if the card gets lost in the mail. If the buyer sends payment and it is not received, there's only a very very slim chance he is actually out anything. Most likely a check gets lost or misdirected or thrown out. I don't think anyone just goes and cashes a check made out to someone else. The only way a buyer would be sol for his payment being lost is if he sends cash. Which ... is why no one sends cash - too easy to lose and be gone, or have someone receive it and say they didn't, etc. It's fate is all but untraceable so a buyer protects himself by sending something besides cash.

As to who is responsibile for insurance, well in the end the buyer will always pay for insurance whether it's specified, built into the shipping cost, built into a BIN, etc. If sellers have to provide insurance as a matter of course (because shipping risk is on the seller) they will all surely put this in the overall price somewhere - there's no free lunch. So by making insurance optional, to me it's almost like the seller is offering to allow the buyer to save a few dollars by incurring the risk.

Interestingly, out of hundreds and hundreds(literally)of cards - bought and sold, I have only not gotten one package - a V117 Jacobson - that was supposedly mailed -from Canada.

Now I am waiting on a E93 Joss - from north of the border.

WE have NOT Talked since ~ He's emails are extremely rude!!!!

His MONEY Was Returned!!!!!!!!!!!!! (BigDeal) ~ But it seemed very fishy (He's the only person I have ever had a PROBLEM with)

I've done deals with several Canadians. The postal service up there is flawed and the delays are seemingly beyond comprehension. But, in the end I was often impressed by the communications of my trading partners. To blame the guy for lag time shows ignorance and impatience. There is no way any other postal system can compare to the USPS's tremendous resources, manpower and organization (yet we often criticize it). We've got it made here. A little empathy?
