I'd prefer that this was on a "need to know" basis , but what the heck - I'm 60 until next April.

Dude! Your hitting mid-life crises a little bit early. Hang in there, other stuff will start breaking down soon enough, but as long as you come out of it without either a pony tail or a red corvette. Then you will be just fine.

Lovely Day...

I am 35 and was just looking at my first steal. I pulled an '84 Mattingly rookie out of a wax pack at the Little League ball diamond. It is slabbed now...gum stain and all. That is where it started. Now I am looking for a Walter Johnson portrait. I think he played a bit before Donnie Baseball.

49 for me. I remember collecting 66 Topps and I kept them all in a little red suitcase that 3 years later was decorated with the 69 decals. Boy did I not keep them in good shape when I was a kid. Loved them too much and it showed

Lots of us in the 41-50 age group...and many near the top of that group.

I'm 47 now but will turn 48 in September.
I've got 22 years in pre-war, 40 years in baseball cards.

Getting bald, grey haired and less energetic. Yes, I'm growing up!

If someone would kindly cut me in half and count the rings I'll know my true age.

This old oak has pretty much whittled down collecting these days.

I've met your wife. You sure you want to stick to that "half" thing?

I was thinking it was more of a 70/30 split!

Jim - you're absolutely right about that, it's probably closer to 90/10 if I were to be totally honest.

Season-wise, we're getting better.....a team that beat us by 61 (yes, that's not a typo) a month ago beat us by 25 Thursday and we were only down 12 at the end of 3, so we're getting more competitive with teams. I have great kids and they are playing hard and still learning. Plus, we won our first game last Saturday. Thanks for asking.

You're right Fred, we have an equal split at the moment. I re-racked the results into equal bars of 10 years each. I'm sure most of the 31-40 and 41-50 groups will continue collecting for the next 10-20 years, sliding to the right as time passes. It will be interesting to see how the 31-40 age group looks in ten years. Will the current twenty-somethings grow in numbers to allow the 31-40 age group retain its share or will the average age grow as time passes? Hopefully the former coupled with growth to give the hobby we enjoy stability (price & value wise).

And for the record, 36 years here.

This post expresses my sentiments pretty well. In a few ways I feel quite young - particularly when I'm around my grand children but the calendar says second grade and my first baseball cards (1957 Topps) were a looooooooong time ago. My grand parents told me time passes quickly but I knew better. (I was wrong.)

This hobby affords the opportunity to learn something daily and I look forward to future years as a baseball hobbyist. (I'm 60 AND A HALF as we kids used to say.)

Interesting question, Leon. Thanks for the opportunity to participate.

Out of over 8,000 registered members we can only get a little over 300 votes in this interesting poll?

Come on, you lurkers don't have to post, but a vote would make the analysis more valid.

Just turned 33 and just getting started in pre WWII stuff. Just purchased my first a couple weeks ago. Looking forward to my second soon. I'm sincerely hoping this keeps my interest, I've burned myself out on newer stuff. Too much to collect, and I wanted it all. I can't afford a lot of the pre WWII stuff, but hoping to work on Cubs team sets from that era. Other than some Anson's and a couple others, most appear to be affordable for me in lower grades. We'll see where it goes, maybe in 20 years I'll be buying up the higher dollar stuff and working on sets. Hopefully anyway.
