Nice Young portrait. I too picked one of those up as I think it is a great card of the winningist pitcher there will ever be. Classic Horner type portrait on a classic green background. Vintage cards just don't get better they only get different.

Jay, that is a fantastic card ! Helen really liked baseball more than your average fan. Great collectable for a fan of OJ era baseball, especially one who likes NY. Are examples of Helen Dauvray tough to come by (I suspect they are)? That would be a great companion piece with one of the Dauvray pins (I'm aware of three from 1887 Detroit team).

Joe--Her cards are available, although like most cards from the period not too available, if you know what I mean. She comes listed as Helen Dauvray, or, more preferably, as Helen Dauvray Ward. The only cards I have seen in the latter format are an Old Judge actress card in which she is wearing a large hat, and the Our Knocker Cigar card. I agree with you--she played an important role in early baseball, not only by donating the Dauvray Cup, but by being an outspoken female supporter for the game. BTW, I have always thought that a strong arguement could be made for including her Old Judge card in the baseball Old Judge "set".

And that's why that's the most beautiful card of the 19th century! Stellar pickup, Matt.

Matt - that's a great looking Anson for the grade. Is there staining on the back or a crease I can't see?

Thanks Erich (and Seth) - no creases and the back is clean; the T/B centering is cause for the grade.

I only have a handful of cards but am fond of the Turkey Reds and have been on the lookout for a presentable top-tier HOF T-3 at a good price. I found this and it fits in quite nicely into my display.

Not baseball but I was happy to recently pick up this N150 Honest Long Cut of boxing Champion John L. Sullivan.

I can honestly say I don't know much about the non-actresses cards from this set, although from the limited research I have done I can't find much out about them. I would appreciate any info anybody has on difficulty, rough value, etc. (I'm sure Adam W. knows as much as anybody about this kind of stuff!). The front is nice but there are two strips of paper-loss on the back.

Default My New Stuff

Got these back from SGC.

Picked this up at the last west chester show, also back from a SGC

Just got this and it is my first Ruth playing era card and I am happy to get it even though it is beat. I have wanted a Ruth card for a long time.

If anyone has any extra Boston Store cards (that means you Michael and Jason) I have some extras that I would trade for cards I need. I have about half the set but I think the 2nd half is going to be hard to do.

I am also looking for more card from the 1915 unc strip set.

I am very happy with my recent pick ups.

Default Feel like I won the lottery

After getting outbid on the last two Moran Auctions (Heritage & Ebay), I finally landed this one from ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=160340817158 .
I decided not to haggle with a best offer and just said what the heck and "Buy it Now" for $39.99. Now if I can just find that Hoblitzell and Wilhelm (willing to spend a little more than $39.99 for them).

Default Trio of 1888 Detroits

While I've completed all of the 1887 Detroit Old Judge poses, I'm far from having all the 1888s (and never will). Here are some recent pick-ups from three different sources covering all three different Goodwin & Co. types for 1888 (Fa, Fb, & G - for those that have read "The Book"). For Detroit, new players for 1888 were issued as Fb while some of the 1887 re-issues are Fa and others Fb. So the Rowe is a re-issue of an 1887 pose, Baldwin is all new, and the Ganzel cabinet was first issued as an N172 in 1887, but the cabinets debuted in 1888, the last year Detroit was in the league. For those with interest, I'll be posting another special pick-up that dates to 1888 on the Memorabilia forum.

Joe - great cards and great explanation. I received my copy of "the book" a few weeks ago, and going through it page by page, word by word, will be one of the first things I get to do when I'm done studying in late July.

Matt - that is a really really nice Anson in any grade, and awesome for a 3. I'm glad you finally got one - I know you've been looking and waiting for a very long time for that card. That wait and that card at the end of it are exactly why we collect.

Marty- Really nice E98 Wagner, you don't see them in orange very often for some reason, nice card.
Frank J- What a deal! Maybe there aren't that many T205 guys here but that was a heckuva pickup and for $39.99 that's incredible! The original scan made the card look fishy but your scan shows the card is real and original. Great job!
