The Wagner went from 100K to 700K in just a few hours. Is the auction closing tonight?

Just went through the auction, nothing that's on my list of needs...there are a few in the I wish/someday category. If you're looking for funds check out my signature for what I'm looking for.

Made a mental note to stop and get a Powerball ticket in the 140,000,000 to 1 odds that some of this stuff remains within my budget!

It appears that someone put in a very high auto bid. Since the $200k bid it has been jumping by two bids every time a new bid is put in.

When it was at $170k I thought about placing a bid just for shits and giggles. Just so I could say I bid on a legit T206 Wagner.

Didn't have the stones to do to though.

I bid on a very low quality Wagner once in 2004. I had the high bid ( over $50,000) going into the last day. A couple guys bid it up to I believe $62,000. I always wished that I had made another bid.

Then I found out that Keith Olbermann won the card. I could have made a few more bids and it wouldn't have mattered, he still would have beat me. Oh well, it's like I owned a Wagner for a couple days. Sort of.

I was clever enough to place my "I bid on a Wagner" bid early.

i'd guess 1/2 or more of the early wagner bids...among other big $$$$ cards early bids are ego trips.

Call me "old school", "old fashioned" or just plain old but I'm holding out for the catalog in the mail to look at all the items. Looking online, although more instantly gratifying , only serves the visual sense. Waiting for the catalog is stimulating to visual AND olfactory senses

Default Catalog smells.

Totally agree! I need to smell the catalog before looking at lots...but it is killing me to wait! Picked up my 52 Mantle last year, getting excited about what is out there this year!

Default Bids at aucton

yeah I know it sucks to know that bids wont win but we also know that 99% chance that if our highest offer is below market price we aren't going to win the item so its not that disappointing..

Agreed. Not likely to be a lot of 'steals' with this auction. Not going to take anyone by surprise here!

Still waiting for the catalog in the hinterlands. Always reminds of an old New Yorker Magazine cover. Saul Steinbergs " View of the World from 9th Avenue"

Catalog just hit my front door--almost took it off it's hinges! Mailman said he was glad I'm the only one in the area that gets it!

The catalog just arrived at my work mailroom. It took 3 guys using a hand-truck to bring it up to me.

It's amazing...as some others have eluded to above, there's nothing like thumbing thru a real catalog versus a website. Even though you think you do a thorough search on the computer, it's inevitable that you'll find some hidden treasures tucked away between the pages.

When I saw this post and image, my only thought was that John had received the only miscut catalog without four square corners that would ultimately be sold for megabucks in an auction down the road.

My catalog arrived moments ago and my suspicion was correct. My corners measure exactly 90 degrees with parallel edges, a true rectangular catalog. The smell confirms the authenticity of my copy, but alas no magnet was included in my shipment. I will expect and anticipate a second packet containing the magnet.

Mine arrived yesterday, and is awesome as always. However, I've got a question about the website. Many of the AH websites now allow for scan super-enlargement, and I thought REA did in the past but cannot remember. Anyway, is it just me or my browser, or do the REA scans allow only for the small thumbnails plus one "regular" enlargement? I like to track the serial numbers on certain graded cards and have trouble seeing many of them.

Got it!
Postal carrier complained about the turbulance up the gravel driveway due to the potholes. I replied "Its just the package!"
btw: Which brings up the question, can a mail carrier complain about that or has a right to or go further and not deliver to the house. (1/4 mile off main road).

I like to track the serial numbers on certain graded cards and have trouble seeing many of them.
Hi Todd,

I think REA never had the super-enlargement capability on the website. I seem to recall wishing for this in the past, but it was not available. They should add that.

Cheers,
Blair

I don't think REA ever had the super high-res scans like some AHs have today, as Blair mentioned. I'm on a PC using Firefox, and I only get the thumbnail and the standard size (kudos to REA for their accurate scans).

The standard size is big enough for me, but if you need to go bigger or enlarge for serial numbers, on a PC you can usually right click to view the image by itself, then Ctrl+ to enlarge and Ctrl- to shrink image.
