Default R308 Type II

It has been about four years since I have seen a type II up for sale. Is Foxx the only known player with a type II?

Yes....and these are some of the rarest cards in the hobby. They are so rare I have a feeling many on the board don't even know about them!! (or they know and don't care ) Here is one for comparison's sake, right next to a regular R308. I have seen 2-3 for sale in about 14 yrs.....

Default R308

Are you there Jimmy. Here are my two R308 Foxx cards, look real hard to see him. I traded my much nicer type 1 to Gerry Glasser years ago. The larger type 2 is nearly impossible to find. I think Leon and I got ours from the same guy. Lefty Gomez is suppose to exist as a type 2, but I have never seen one.

Default Pepper Martin

I have a larger version Tattoo Orbit of Pepper Martin that I picked up completely by accident on ebay about 7-8 years ago. The seller had it listed as 'photo card', or something along those lines. I recognized it as one of those funky self developing Tattoo Orbits, and needing it as a type card I bid and won it at the opening bid of $5.00. When I received it, lo and behold, it was one of the incredibly scarce large versions. About a year later I was able to track down a smaller version of Martin for about three times the price.

The moral of the story is...always ask to borrow Leon's quarter when scanning your cards for sale.

Default And...

I just noticed that both Leon's Foxx and my Martin have the vertical line of brownish spots running along the back side. The spots on my Martin, however, also show through as greyish spots on the front.

Default The Pepper Martin Trio

Thought I would scan the Pepper Martin Tattoo Orbits I own to show size comparisions between the issues. And in the process I discovered, at least on the Martin, the more common R305 (the colorful little bastards) and the
R308's share the same image, with the R305 obviously having been cropped just below his waist.

Thanks for sharing that. Basically that large Martin rewrites all of the hobby references. Very neat.
