I just saw a Babe Ruth tonight from the 1937 The Doughnut Corporation of America set. Interesting card... but I've never sene one before. Anyone collect these "Famous American" cards? Are they rare or have I just neer run across one before? |

Rare, but I have seen a few come up for sale in the last few years. Lipsett sold a complete set a few years back. They are quite possibly the ugliest cards ever made. |

Cant believe what people pay for that ugly card. It doesnt even say Babe Ruth on it, it only says "Beloved Baseball Idol of All Boys". Its ugly, its blank backed, it was issued as a cut out a couple years after he retired, and It isnt even all that rare. Ive now seen 5 of the Ruths and 3 Golfers in the last 3 years show up for sale, and I dont even look for them. It goes to show that if something is listed as $4,000 in price guides there is a good chance someone with too much $$ will pay it. |

Isn't that rare ? 5 in three years seems pretty rare to me. I had the second high bid at 1k. Your quote-"that if something is listed as $4,000 in price guides there is a good chance someone with too much $$ will pay it" is pretty insulting. What is too much money ? One of these two years ago in Lipsets went for well over 1k in worse condition so the price this one went for in much better condition was a very good deal. |

Fewer than 2 cards a year offered is a very rare issue. |

These were extremely frustrating to watch. I bought a lot of 66 these cards in August for $160 and they ended up getting lost in the mail. I totalled the sale on the cards that were sold, over $3600.00. OUCH! |

With Ebay, its amazing how many things get "lost in the mail". That would be a good thread - items that got lost & who the seller was. I bet certain sellers have "real bad luck" as far as items getting to their buyers... |

No biggy..I bid on it a couple times too (I also was 1st to bid on it last week), but I thought it would sell for less than 1/2 of what it sold for. |
