1914 Cracker Jack Stains
I was looking at cards on the PSA registry and a huge amount from this year are very clean with no stains. Were these cards "cleaned" or were there some that did not get stained?
Thanks |

Not that the 14's without stains are suspect, but I've always preferred the 14's with stains, gives them character. I think it would be hard to clean these cards, they are thin and fragile, but I'm no expert at cleaning. - Last edited by Casey2296; 04-15-2024 at 08:16 PM. |

1914 Cracker Jack Stains
If I collected 1914 CJs I wouldn't touch them without stains. They show the history so much more.

I have a 1914 without stains (and some borders), although this behatted man later had his reputation stained and further shredded due to his tightwad-iness.

Unstained CJs remind me of Michael Jackson's claim of near full-body vitiligo.

Stains are part of the history, which I accept and like. Maybe look at the link from yesterday on Kurts Card Care. I turned off the Kurts Card Care after a bit as not to my liking. My radar is up on perfect looking Vintage cards. I do know near perfect vintage is possible from a find in the 1980s from someones safe with incredible CJs that a dealer in the panhandle of WV obtained. Just not what I would consider what we mostly see. Keeping an open mind and a keen eye is key.

I started a thread about this a while back. I like my 14 CJs stained. Its part of what makes them so special. Amazing set, best stained.
Shameless plug- my entire 1914 CJ set (stains and all) is being broken up and sold in the current memory lane auction. |

Just trimming my collection down. As much as I love them, for me cards are investments, and I felt it was time to sell some stuff and reallocate elsewhere. The 1914 CJ set is so cool that I bet I put together another one down the line.

A fantastic opportunity to pick up many significant cards that are increasingly unavailable. I would only ask, don't bid on the cards I want.

This is from my last collection. As for visual look, this is what I like to see.

A Cracker Jack card without stains is almost blasphemy. It may sound crazy, but since Im not in it for the money, if I had a choice between a near mint CJ with zero stains and a mid to low grade with stains, Id choose the latter any day of the week. Its a huge part of what makes them so special.

Lots of '14s in auction right now but they usually go for a bid more than I want to pay LOL...most of them aren't super rare, just expensive (for guys on budgets) .

I love Cracker Jacks--I have a bunch of '15s, but only two '14s, unfortunately.

If one of your 14 CJ is that Christy Mathewson, hats off, that is an awesome card. Definitely intrigued by some of the other ones available.

My favorite CJ Pose with some staining. 1914's with stains used to get a break from PSA

Stained 14 CJs are the best!
