Default So I Guess We Should Talk Basketball Photos

In case anyone missed it, a bunch of signed vintage basketball photos closed very high: four and five figures. Some unsigned sold well too. A 1968 Celtics TI of Russell with the image used on his 1968 Topps test card closed for $7,878. A 1967 UCLA photo of Alcindor sold for $940. I think these are huge numbers for modern photos. Anyone want to chime in?

Another nice close at LOTG:

Signed 1947-48 Lakers team $4800
1961-62 Chamberlain IA $360.

Vintage basketball photos are doing very well indeed. Might be time to start arbitraging them against cards.

Any T1 photo that was used to make a popular card will always sell for big bucks.

Goldin sold a Joe Namath rookie photo for almost $200,000 USD. Heritage sold a low-grade George Mikan rookie photo for $9,000 USD and a higher grade example for $41,000 USD! Both of them were signed as well.

Default Basketball photos

I was fortunate to acquire several vintage photos.

These were pro teams from the 1920s including some early hall of fame stars. Also got a few nice signed photos of Bob BCousey and other 1950s stars.

Got this Very nice Bill Bradley Princeton type 1 photo tonight. Oh and it's autographed.... Prices have been all over the place. So some really nice pictures can be had if you watch closely. But as seen high quality items in highly publicized auctions do very well. But great buys can be had from secondary auctions.
I think the other issue here was raised by the OP and that is for great photos to bring great numbers they need to be in a case that points out that they are type 1 photos and
that the signatures are authentic.

Thanks, I'm a portrait guy, from T206 to photos, I prefer it to action shots.

The price on the Cooper photo is another stunner.

I still think these old photos of the legends have a way to go in terms pf price.

Gorgeous photo Adam. You should have gotten it signed when he was doing private signings with Hollywood Collectibles all those years.

The Cooper was a terrific photo and a great buy for some collector. Looked slightly trimmed but that is the photograph that is used for the Cooper Celtics team issued postcard, his 51-52 Boston Garden program cover and the team issued 51-52 photo. Just a great item. I am a huge fan of photos that are also used for Celtics program covers.

I would have if I'd owned it.

This came back as a type 1. Picture was used for different Celtics items over the years, including 54-55 program cover.

Default 1957 Celtics PP Phillip

Thought I'd join the party. This is my signed Phillip picture pack photo. It actually came from him in the early 90s as a buddy sent something else TTM to be signed, and he sent this back as well. Photo is too large to post with this outdated file limit.
