Yep. I can't find it now but there is a great acoustic version with just Greg and Dickie, or was, on You Tube. The studio recording is fabulous too, both of them at their peak. I know it's hip among the self-styled cognoscenti like Rolling Stone (who at one point named Duane the second best guitarist ever) to think their work before Duane died was better, but to me this song disproves it.

I don’t know if either have already been mentioned but the two in my mind are I’m Not In Love by 10cc and I Can See Clearly Now by Johnny Nash.

Spotify shuffle
There are about a thousand songs that I have on shuffle and just play continuously.
Then I check out the suggestions on this thread and the other music threads. I really appreciate that you guys dig past the Gold record hits that have been overplayed. Even those are sometimes worth hearing a few thousand times more but I think you aficionados know what I mean. Tonight as I was “shuffling” I heard these two back to back and thought of this thread : Al Stewart - “Year of the Cat” Todd Rundgren - “Hello it’s Me” Yes they were hits, but these songs are perfect every note. I don’t think I really care for any other stuff by either artist. But these songs…Home Runs! Whaddya think?

Ha
I’m willing to dig deeper for Rundgren.
I’d be surprised if the same artist who crafted “hello it’s me” didn’t have a few others that I would enjoy. But the song “we gotta get you a woman” sounds like something my junior high school buddies said to my pimply faced self when I tried showing them my 1975 Topps collection. Now Al Stewart, cmon “Time Passages” ? No thank you.

Did I mix the two up?
I take back what I said, or at least alter it. Did a little checking and he didn't play and sing everything on every one of his solo songs. On the album Runt he did have some bass and drum help. On other records/songs he'd occasionally bring in a lead guitarist, but still the bulk of the playing and singing was just him apparently.. Last edited by BobC; 01-19-2022 at 08:01 PM. |

Perfect Songs
This is a great thread... I used this in class today to get the students to talk as an "icebreaker" activity. Of course, I did not recognize most of the songs that they listed, but did have Queen and Journey represented by the students. I played Let's Groove by Earth, Wind, and Fire, then topped it off with Blue Moon by the Marcels.
Thanks Steve |

I feel Seger is criminally underrated. Had some soulful, deep meaning hits. I love Turn the Page, and Hollywood Nights.

Another one, this time from two of the best women in Rock N Roll
Alone - Heart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtopccRfyUU I seem to have this obsession with finding artists/bands later in their career singing their classics. Something about hearing how their voices have aged, and how the meaning of the song seems to change a little bit. When a younger Ann Wilson sings this I think of her trying to find a way to confess her feelings to someone. When I hear an older Ann Wilson sing it, It almost feels like she's trying to speak to someone from her youth that has long been happily married, but it's a Romance she's dwelling on. Not sure if it's just me in that regard.

Resurrecting this thread, to share another fantastic live performance from the Eagles. New Kid in Town is one of the most underrated songs in their catalogue, in my opinion! One of my favorites from a show in 1977. Wish I could've seen them in their prime!

He was such a big loss, and it's impossible to replace him, but I do think they have done a serviceable job. Vince Gill is incredibly talented. I would kill for a joint show with The Eagles and Jackson Browne, as he would also be able to fill the massive hole that Glenn Frey's death left.
