Default Does this Maris card look altered?

Hi all,

I've been watching this Maris rookie card on eBay and wanted to get your thoughts on if it looks trimmed at all?

I noticed the right side of the card appears "wavy" and possibly thinner in the holder compared to other 58 Topps cards. With the trimmed card scandal going on I may just be overly paranoid, but would certainly appreciate what everyone here thinks.

Thanks!

Kyle

First thing I said was "what is going on with that lower right border".

it's present on the left too and may well be distortion created by the plastic baggie insert.

Good catch. Probably a scanner on its last legs.

Ask the seller to rescan it.

But the plastic slab has the same "waves". It's likely just the faulty scan.

Both sides look wavy, but as has been said, it could be distortion. Could be trimmed though too, but hard to tell.

It could be the combination of a slight diamond cut and a bad scanner, but definitely looks funky in that scan. I would ask for a better one, or perhaps just phone camera pics in good light without much glare.

Thank you everyone for your opinions. I messaged the seller asking if it was wavy in person and if he could take another pic. His response was “it’s a 6, not wavy, good luck.” I think I’ll take everyone’s advice and pass on this one!

What answer could the seller have given that would have made you buy the card?

I think it's the scan. I've seen this before. As has been pointed out the holder looks wavy too. It seems rather obvious to me. I would bet the card is fine.

If he would have acknowledged that the scan indeed looked distorted and not ignored the request for a quick additional photo. If that’s asking too much so be it, I just don’t feel comfortable making the purchase without being able to verify.

Not that anyone was waiting on pins and needles for this question to be answered, but the card arrived today and it's not altered. The "wave" was an optical anomaly as Peter suggested. Sorry to disappoint any PSA-haters.

In fact, awfully nice for a "6," although we didn't see the back...

What's confusing to me about the card is how much it is swimming in the holder. Is that a non-standard slab? The top 'stay' (whatever the technical term is for that sliver of plastic) is so much further up than any of my holders, so that accounts for the up and down swimming, but look at how much room there is on the sides, too. Here's a random ebay screen grab with a much snugger overall fit for comparison...

It may be a hair oversize so they had to use a bigger holder.

This is not my card, but this Maris looks weird as heck on the right side also. Maybe this card was miscut often?

Back may have part of another card?

THat's the shadow of the ridge that holds it in place. Notice the weird shape is gone on the reverse (where it would be on the left side.)

I'm guessing that - "Sure let me get a better (higher resolution, close up corners) scan to you" would have helped considerably. It's like a $250 card. I would have wanted a better response also.

But as was pointed out, what's with the black stripe at the edge of the other side of the back?
