Default Why I will NEVER auction a high grade card ever again on Ebay!!

Two Diamond Stars. 1935 Red Ruffing SGC 7 $195 BIN. 5 days later, 1935 Red Ruffing SGC 7.5 $145 Auction. Half grade higher, $50 lower. And then had to pay 11% sellers fee on top of that!!! Ebay has seen the last .99 cent auction from me on my high grade finds!! Maybe the low grade stuff under $50 might be ok. The high grade stuff? Forget it!

It looks like you bought it for $138.43 on March 23, and you sold it on April 8 for $141.50. I don't get your beef. You got your money back and you only held the card for 2 weeks. Personally, I'd be pretty relieved I got my money back.

Doesn't matter. Too many people use VCP as the Bible. I got a killer deal from Mile High. The $200 BIN was the right price. The $140 auction was the steal.

My guess is that if you switch to BINs, you will be back complaining that your cards aren't selling.

Peter, does my screen shot not prove ANYTHING to you? Does it not prove BINs are the way to go?

It's one example in a world of cards, so no. I have listed many cards at what I thought were reasonable BINs and nobody even looked at them. Ebay completed auctions also don't always tell you the real, best offer price.

As a general rule, when someone I am talking to about buying a card say VCP, I move on.

Yeah, I agree it should have probably gotten at least $175. But the color on yours is a bit faded and the centering is off as well. And, except for Greenberg, Diamond Stars have not been a good investment the last few years.

I don't think I've ever bought a BIN card. I've bid on plenty of auctions but I haven't ever made a BIN. I also don't bid on auctions with reserves. So if you want my bids, you'll have an auction and you'll start it at 99 cents. Sure I'm not alone on that either.

As long as a BIN has a best offer I would give it a shot if I wanted the card. Sometimes even if it does not have a best offer option I will still make one. Have bought several cards that way.

Yea, but from a seller's point of view, the only .99 cent sellers who are successful are PWCC and Probstein. Whether legit or for nefarious reasons, that is what I have noticed (as a .99 seller NOT named PWCC/Probstein).

Depending on what you term successful, I use .99 starting bid with no BIN and, most of the time, I make money...I trust the market and wait for the feeding frenzy.

I have a PSA-8 Mantle out there right now.

Oh...and....

probstein is still dead to me.

There are certain cards that are exempt from that. Mantle being one of them. Try it with a high grade Gabby Hartnett and see if you get the same results.

I don't have anything at all against the OP , but hasn't he started this same or a very similar version of this thread several times previously?

I am certainly not wealthy, but I don't really see the angst over a sub $200 card. Sometimes you make money and sometimes you lose money on a card -- unless you want to sit on your inventory forever. I could see a Diamond Stars Red Ruffing sitting for a long time as a BIN.

Your issue is that too many people know what a particular card is worth?

A fair point, Robert, but I never purchase a high-grade unless I'm fairly certain I can resell it for at least what I paid...I've been caught by not sticking to that in the paste, so I usually stick in the EX-5 range for pre-war, 6 or 7 for post-war.

IMO - I agree with the prior post in which it was state that you only held the card in question for two weeks and still made a little...that's almost day-trader planning.

Again, IMO Baseball cards are like stocks in that you frequently have to hold until the time is just right.

My issue is that I frequently buy Baseball cards emotionally, rather than rationally, which is when I get in trouble.

All apologizes to Gabby Harnett fans out there.
