So what's the vintage card for 2018?
2017 the board was all over the Jackie Bond Bread card. Up up.
2016 it was the Gehrig rookie Exhibits. Up up. So what's the hot card in 2018 we all wish we bought in January? Do tell. |

Other cards experienced similar increases as Jackie...like early Cobbs esp postcards but even caramels to a lesser degree, t206 green..some ruth cards...e121 has dramatically increased last year or so, anything ruth/red sox.
2018...who knows...but I think anything with a rare back and a big hofer on the front is a good bet! Dietsche Cobb fielding should be a 20K card in nice shape. Last edited by ullmandds; 01-26-2018 at 08:02 PM. |

less heralded rookie year cards of iconic players
hard to pick one out of those below. along with being rookie year cards with nice images, the pops on all of these cards (i include over-sized pieces as cards) are relatively low.
j. dimaggio: 1936 R312 is his nicest rookie year card in my opinion. j. robinson: 1947 homogenized bond bread - this is different from 1947 portrait facsimile bond bread that skyrocketed in value last year; 1947 (incorrectly labeled as 1948 by grading cos.) old gold cigarettes kneeling in dugout t. williams: 1939 goudey premiums outside of these i think there is a lot of upside in good eye appeal e90-1 cy young cards. iconic player and gorgeous card. leon, if you read this, it's a good invitation to show your prized possession for some eye candy. It’s time for the hobby to embrace the Gold Borders with more veracity.
I’m thinking that the true SP’s as well as higher grade examples (6-7+) will skyrocket.

In pre-war I think a lot of Goudey cards are underappreciated right now. Could see any of the Gehrig's, Foxx's, or Hornsby's going up big time. For tobacco cards, I think a lot of Matty cards are cheap (though I own a lot of them so I won't mention any specifically lol). Last edited by ronniehatesjazz; 01-29-2018 at 10:44 AM. |

Most likely something from the 1920s - some great sets out there not as well known - strip cards, candy and odd ball types

I don't think it's any one card, but a kind of card. I think this year we'll see a serious spike in prices for cards with eye appeal. I could see people beginning to wise up on OJ's and paying strong for cards with back damage but vibrant images and I can see the average price of a card in poor or fair condition with eye appeal approaching mid-grade value under the right conditions.

I'd have to agree Joe Jackson seems like a good guess. I like a few of the post war RCs if youre looking for a value at current prices.

The 1914 CJ SGC 1.5 on eBay right now certainly is a good way for Shoeless Joe to start the year.

I don't own them anymore, so this is impartial. I think the beautiful, early Ruth Exhibits have so much room to grow. So criminally undervalued. I think they are among his most attractive cards, and are far more rare and early than the Goudeys.

With the surge of the Gehrig Exhibit and the rare postcards, I think that's changing. Cobb PCs are certainly booming (so much for impartiality). So I think it should follow that the Ruth's, though not nearly as rare as the more valuable Cobbs, should get the attention they deserve.

I think that '15 Cracker Jack Hof'ers are due to close the price gap with the '14's in 2018. For sure, there are the '15 factory sets which skew population reports plus scads of nrmt cards that have emerged over the years. Add in the fact they are arguably the most beautiful cards ever produced, people want them in the best condition possible and to hell with the history. And I think the '15 CJ's of Matty and Hal Chase are just plain gorgeous.

My guess would be something rare Ruth...Fredrick Foto, 1921 E121 variations, Boston Store, Collins McCarthy...his rare early postcards. M101 should continue to be hot. Ruth Red Sox related type 1 photos as well. Anything early Ruth with a pop less than 25.
I also see rare Jackie Robinson and high grade Robinson rookie stuff as a sure thing. Well, I guess that wasn't just one card now was it... Last edited by LincolnVT; 01-31-2018 at 07:36 PM. |

Just saw it. It's a shame I didn't pick one up when I first started looking. Great looking card for the grade.
