Jeff,
I go back and forth in levels of appreciation but if I am to be as objective as I possibly can, there really is not a close second as far a beauty than this one I dubbed the "Mona Lisa" of Ruth photos. It is a verified Type 1 1915 rookie at that. Although I have posted many placed(things get stale).. It is my favorite to look at. It is almost 3d.. Ruth just coming at you crystal clear. The background is even pretty and it is not in focus. It is a masterpiece... I wish we knew who the photographer was. To think.. not conlon, bain. paul Thompson, van o etc.. Thant said...I love them all for different reasons. They all have something I cherish. They are my baby Ruths. haha Ben

A unique example Red Sox Ruth “hands”
Thank you guys. I have several more.. just need to get some pics. This one is 1 of 2 total type 1 Ruth Hands I have seen as a Member if the Red Sox. Only copy of this one. These are tougher than the Yankee copies for obvious reasons. Look at all the character on that bat! Man.. I wish I had the bat. I’ll have to settle for the photo i guess.

Awesome photos Ben, those are some of the best out there.
I remember about 5-7 years ago Henry sold a large pitching example on ebay that I still think about sometimes. I havent seen it pop up since but I remember it was amazing quality. I think it was from Dick Hoblitzell's estate and was from a local photographer (Harris maybe) and I would love to see that one again. Do you remember the one I am talking about?

I seem to remember it was large (7x9 or so) and had clipped corners I think. I will look around. I bid about $2000 and thought I had it in the bag and got outbid for what was (at the time) a CRAZY price of like $2300.

Would have been 2011 (possibly late 2010). I still have Hoblitzell's Red Sox scrapbook with the spot it was removed from but it was taken out before I bought the collection. I am positive it was when Henry was selling on ebay still, but I havent seen it since.
Regardless, the horizontal pitching pose you posted would be my pick as well, the larger background seems to frame him better than most!

Another 1915 Ruth and Father photo approaching 40k in Heritage, exact same photo sold for 17k in Feb this year.
Still nothing hotter than early Ruth photos in my opinion. Cheaper alternative to the m101 rookies. Last edited by Bicem; 11-16-2017 at 11:14 AM. |

I would argue that all of the early Babe Ruth Red Sox cards, postcards, photos, pins and other memorabilia are and will continue to remain "hot" and increase in demand and value in the coming years. I find it interesting that some of the early Ruth cards such as the Collins McCarthy are bringing prices comparable to M101 Ruth cards in similar grade. My fear is that ALL Red Sox related items will soon be out of reach for folks like myself...most already are.

Ben, because I am a big time “auto” collector, this is the one I would really want. Lmk when your shelf space gets too cramped with Ruth Photos, and I’ll do you a heavy and take this one off your hands....LOL!!!! Seriously Ben, words cannot define your Ruth images....Amazing to say the least!

Dunno guys. E121 is an “early” ruth issue...issued shortly after the trade...which explains why some e121 have ruth in a red sox uni. The later issues from 1928 or so...harringtons...tharp are closer to the end of ruths career than the beginning. The fact they depict ruth in a red sox uni is more out of laziness than accuracy...and should not command valutions like e121.
