Default 1947 Dodgers

Been tracking this one for a while and finally made arrangements to acquire it. Obviously not a Jackie Robinson jersey, but thrilled to have it none the less. Brooklyn Dodger jerseys from 1947 are pretty tough to find, of any player and or condition. For this one, I have period MacGregor-Goldsmith road buttons to restore it. I suspect there could be jerseys I have missed, but I also suspect not too many, but over the years, this is what I am tracking with respect to 1947 Dodgers jerseys as being offered:

ROADHowie Schultz; MacGregor-Goldsmith (this jersey)
Hank Behrman; MacGregor-Goldsmith

HOME
Eddie Stanky; Rawlings (have this jersey)
Bruce Edwards; Rawlings
Clyde King; Rawlings
Gil Hodges; Spalding

I also own a 1946 Brooklyn Dodgers home satin that could well have been carried over for use and wear in 1947. They did not wear road satins in 1947 as the last year for the road satins appears to be 1945.
So for me, I now have a more complete picture and physical representation of a very special intersection of time, events, and fabric.

Really cool Dodgers uniform Dave. Congrats!

Here's a recent pick up for me. It's a 1967 Cubs scorecard from the 9/1-9/3 series against the Mets. I don't usually collect autographs but as a Mets fan I liked the combination of players who signed. Some had just gotten called up to the majors and a couple HOFers: Danny Frisella, Joe Moock, Cal Koonce, Bud Harrelson, Tommie Reynolds, Bob Johnson, Billy Connors, Greg Goosen and HOFers Ralph Kiner and Nolan Ryan.

Also interesting to me is that Ryan is on there but yet didn't pitch in the majors that year. He pitched a little in the minors and then didn't pitch the rest of the year. I assume he was traveling with the major league team but not an official September call up? Research has proved fruitless but maybe I can meet Nolan one day and ask. Thanks for looking.

Default sporties

According to an old baseball catalog "sporties", issued in 1934 were "widely accepted as a bakery product."

Default Brooklyn Dodger Jersey

Ken,

It's a size 44, which is at the upper range for typical jerseys of the period. I am sure it's much lighter than the basketball uniforms Schultz wore..

These have been coming in over the past couple of days, so I thought I would post as a group:

Top Left: Reds home scorecard. Much tougher to find that the World Series Programs. Both this scorecard and the full illustrated program were priced at .25 cents. I suspect they sold a lot less of these considering what you could get for the same money.

Top Right: World Series menu from the Netherland Plaza. Only the second one of these I have seen. The Netherland Plaza hosted the Tigers and other major league and media personnel. Interesting in that Ernie Lombardi is identified as Morris Arnovich.

Bottom Left: Bus pass for the final game of the season at Crosley Field. This was win #100 for the ball club. First time they hit that mark. Something they would not do again until 1970.

Bottom Right: Mailing envelop for 1940 World Series tickets. This one is post marked 15 September.
