February Pick Ups
I'm very excited about my latest figural additions
Ive never seen this piece before. It's eiight inches tall and well made. This trophy is all metal including the base, eight inches, and the ball is just about regulation size. I've never encountered this piece before either. It's extremely heavy, solid steal, and 5 inches high. It doesn't appear to be a trophy topper. This is probably a small trophy (4inches). It is solid. Not a rare piece, but very well executed. It's solid metal frame and stand are ornate and set off the batter image well.

Nice pick-up, Steve. That's one of the cleanest ones that I have seen minus the holes punched, of course.

Thanks Phil. It's pretty amazing how when you love a piece as much as I love this one you don't even notice the holes

Did anyone here win this?
Boston Pennant I was curious if it was a Boston College pennant, or something along the lines of the Royal Rooters stuff, given that it's kind of a royal blue. In any case, I have ideas on restoration if the winning bidder is interested in hearing them.

A few new picks!
I recently found a few new items for my collection. Here are 2 figure 8 vintage baseballs. I’m not sure of their age but I would think late 1800’s maybe early 1900’s. The one is alittle bit larger then a regular baseball about
3 1/8” across and the other is smaller than a regular baseball at 2 1/4” across. If anyone could help me out on these it would be much appreciated. The other find is a light-up store sign that could be hung or sat on a counter. I’m thinking maybe 50’s or 60’s. It goes great with my wall clock. Check out all my items at www.baseballfinds.com |

Plucked this one off Ebay last week, its a Christmas card from the 1949 Fort Worth team featuring a 20 year old HOF Dick Williams and Chico Carrasquel. 1949 was the first year in the States for the Venezuelan star shortstop.

Picked these up from Hunt's auction yesterday. Nothing special, but trying to accumulate enough 1800's football photos to create a decent web-page.
At 5x10, they are nice and large for such photos:

Thanks Phil, I should've included an image of the inside of the card but it says "Fort Worth Baseball Club, inc. sends cordial good wishes for Christmas and the New Year."
Kinda neat, though I usually don't find myself buying anything other than Negro/Latin baseball material but I guess it has Carrasquel on it so that counts.

Minnesota is a virtual black hole for tickets. Perhaps only 5-10 of these Killebrew 500th HR tickets have found their way into the hobby, FWIW.

Picked up these two Type 1 photos recently. The Carl Hubbell was a Baltimore Sun photo that was used on his 1939-46 Salutation Exhibit. The second is Bruce Edwards was a 1949 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Issue photo that was used on his 1950 Bowman baseball card. Thanks to Curt for the pickups!

Sorry I did write it in the title just not in the body of the post. Yes it's Killebrew's 500th.
I just looked on the PSA site to see how many had been graded. There are 10 Mantle 500th HR tickets graded and only 3 Killebrews.

Thanks Keith for the bat! It does indeed have that unique look and feel for sure! Measure 38" inches long and is pictured above a "normal" game used bat. The bronze figural piece has some weight to it...over 9lbs!

I had tentatively planned a 'Johnson vs Jeffries' piece, which would have been a lot easier, but the Burns letter popped up last month. For anyone who's interested, the Ken Burns film about Johnson is on Netflix - it's over 3 hours long and contains lots of fight footage. Surprisingly clear stuff.

I'm sure cuts are easier to find, but I generally only collect handwritten letters and I haven't seen many of his. I'm not thrilled about using the card - I think it will be too small - but the alternative is a larger card of each boxer, or a photo. I'm in no hurry - I have a bunch of projects like this and no wall to hang any of it.

Giants Yearbook
Picked up this 1952 Giants yearbook today at my local card shop. The yearbook features the 1951 season which includes the rookie year of Willie Mays and the famous "Shot Heard Around the World". It's in pretty good condition for the age. Photo is taken with it in a plastic protective sleeve so there is some glare.

Walter Johnson Memorial Dedication ticket stub
I just picked up a scarce ticket stub to the Dedication of the Walter Johnson Memorial at Washington in 1947.
The ticket is dated June 21, 1947 for a game between the St. Louis Browns and Washington Senators played at Griffith Stadium. Along with the teams and score written in vintage ink on the back, it is also written that it was the date of the dedication of the Walter Johnson memorial - a tribute to the Senators Hall of Fame pitcher who died the previous year. In addition, it states that President Harry Truman attended the game. The Nats won the game 5-4. |

http://www.sportsantiques.com/StaggD...aleBBPhoto.htm Darn Mike you cleaned up...you got all that in a yearbook? That first one is Stagg and Jesse Chase Dann...They were the most famous duo in college baseball in the 1889 era...originally Dann was the pitcher...but they switched and Stagg became the pitcher and Dann the catcher....I did a story a few years ago on that photo you can read in the link above....That one of Stagg by himself is stunning...Congratulations that is one heck of a haul!..you don't fool around!
