Default T206 Doyle Throwing -- Why is this card so high?

Posted By: T206Collector

First of all, the seller says its from Serires 150, when the reverse shows that it clearly isn't. Second, the seller says its in VG condition, which it clearly isn't either -- the only "crisp ink" is in the writing on the reverse. So why is this $10-$15 card being bid up so high?

thats all it takes, and if that is a factory 42 card, that would be a great buy.

I am probably just being paranoid, but, shades of the Rosen and SGC fiasco, I wonder if some villain might just be thinking of slicing off the "Doyle, NY Nat'l" at the bottom and sticking it over the Joe Doyle pitching NY card and voila you have, if undetected, a small gold mine. Greed can make people do strange things to vintage baseball cards.

What is the SGC/Rosen fiasco that you are talking about? Something I can read about somewhere? Sounds interesting.

The question I always had about the Doyle incident is how SGC ever holdered it. Keith once told me that it was so obvious that he showed it to his driver, a non-collector, and he responded instantly that someone glued something onto the bottom of the card. How did SGC miss it?

Barry,

If the alteration was as obvious as has been indicated, then I suppose the next question is why did he ever purchase it. Was it a case of buying the holder, not the card, or did he just completely miss the "obvious" alteration for some unknown reason? I have never quite understood that particular facet of the Doyle fiasco.

If I remember correctly it was in an auction and Keith didn't see it up close until he received it. I don't think he bought it in person, but I may be wrong. It always was a story without a plausible explanation.

Does anyone know the history of the card before it got to Rosen? Who sold it to him? Where from?
Thanks - Will
