Default Video - The 10 Biggest Sportscard Value Drops Since Prices Peaked 2 Years Ago

Chris Sewell posted an interesting video yesterday about The 10 Biggest Sportscard Value Drops Since Prices Peaked 2 Years Ago. The video (12 minutes long) is here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbZZJK351to

Some observations from the video:

1. I knew modern dropped in the last two years, but I was shocked at these numbers. 90 percent loss on cards over 50k? Wow.

2. Glad to see that vintage cards didn’t make the list , but I know of a few examples that have dropped (but luckily not to this level).

3. Interesting to see what happens to these cards in the next 2 years. Gain some value back, flatline, or lose more.

Well when some cards of a basketball player almost no one on this website ever heard of are trading for more than the value of 99.9% of Vintage cards, probably was a little unsustainable!

I'm glad I can once again go to Target for cat litter and dish soap without 2 dozen grown men trying to kill each other over a restock of retail ball cards to flip on Ebay for $10 profit.

As fun as it is to beat up on basketball I still don't think you'll hurt yourself investing in LeBron. Definitely not to the extent those phony sales went to, but sooner or later he'll have his own Last Dance documentary released about him and his Topps and Topps Chrome rookies will shoot right back up.

LeBron has dipped his toe in social issues. Something neither Jordan nor Jeter would have come within 1000 miles of in their playing days. And that stunt he pulled in Cleveland was a major turn off. LeBron will never be a great American icon. Too many detractors. See Bill Russell, Jim Brown, et al.

There is a much different audience for basketball today than there was when Bill Russell or Michael Jordan were playing basketball. I would say this generation of fans are definitely not against LeBron or his opinions.

By the way, who is the most iconic active American athlete in the world today? In my opinion it is LeBron James. I don't even know who I'd consider second. The entire world knows his name and basketball is now a worldwide sport in ways it never was before.

Do you have any idea how many articles on the Internet basically read "why is LeBron James the most disliked player in basketball". Many. Many. Many. It's bizarre but true.

My choice would be Tiger Woods, and it’s not even close
