Default Green Cobby Show and Tell

Show your green cobbies and tell us their story! No reds...just greens!

Here's mine. I've always preferred this to the 3 other cobb cards in the gruesome t206 set. I got mine in a lew lipset auction...maybe 12-15 yrs ago. The lot contained the 4 poses of t206. I sold the other 3 and got my greenie for free!

He has a Sweet Caporal back...and is nicely centered. IT has a little paper tear on the rear left border.

IT was raw for many years...then I had SGC grade it a vg-ex(50). I crossed it to psa maybe 3-4 yrs ago and it came back vg+.

i love MY green cobby!

Caught this one for my set in late 2015 from Clean Sweep. At the time it was the third Cobb, still needing the red. So freaking tough to find a green on a budget but this one fit the bill......and I love it.

My wife got me my green Cobb 5 years ago for Xmas. Thank god it was a gift otherwise it probably would've been sold like other cards I regretfully parted with. My oldest son already claimed it so definitely not parting with it. I'm a big fan of the colors and centering!

Was the best PSA 2 I could find at the time to fit the budget. Don't love the crease but the price was right

Had a beautiful SGC 2, sold it and regretted it. I was lucky enough to pick this one from a board member about a year and a half ago. Looks like a solid VG card to me.

Edited to add - Beauty Pete. The centering, color and registration are killer.

I was in the process of refocusing my collection with the help of member Orly57. In the beginning, I was looking for a red background cobb portrait. I thought they looked better at the time. Maybe because I am a Univ. of Louisville fan. lol

but I finally found a green cobb portrait. one that was not wrinkled up. wanted one that was centered well, had good color, had good edges and color. Yea the card has a few flaws: Speck of paper loss on the back and name is faded a little but that is what kept the price somewhat low. Without the flaws, the card would grade in the PSA 4-ish range. I think the previous owner Mr. Pencil is on here. The Green has grown on me. Green Cobb's are more rare than the other 3 versions, so I was also looking at the future of the card. Do I go after rare or do I go after the one there is an abundance of? I chose the Green.

I LOVE IT!!!!

Default Color contrast

Nice cards everyone. I, as usual, like to provide some contrast. I jumped into the T206 Cobb Green foray way too late, and decided it was this one or nothing. Pulled a low-rent Pete and purchased a group lot of similar condition HOF'ers, and sold the rest, so it didn't end up costing TOO much.

At least the card has the common courtesy to inform the viewer it is a Piedmont. It still has some eye appeal, especially in low lighting.

I couldn't remember the back story of my purchase, so I went back to Franks "Monster Number" thread. I picked up this card 6/2015 when I was working hard to complete my set (518). Back then, someone replied to my post asking how much I paid, and it appears I ignored him LOL! I'm glad to have this one, and visit him every now and again in the binder!

That is a beaut and exactly the type of card I look for. If even years from now you feel like letting that one go, please shoot me a heads up! Great card.

There are many SGC 20's but this is my SGC 20. It is gorgeous and I don't miss the 1% of the back that is gone. In fact I cherish the missing pieces because they made it possible for this card to become mine:

In my opinion certain cards registration and image clarity are key. The green Cobby is most definitely one of them. I actually look for a bold striking image placing that even over 50/50 centering.

I settled for this one. Great cards everyone!!

My father bought this Cobb at a card show in the mid 80's for $20! It cost me $35 to get it graded last year...

Default Raw Green Cobb

Took a gamble and bought this "well loved" Cobb for a great price without seeing pictures of the back. Happy to learn that it had a very clean SC back when I received the card. Now resides in my raw T206 set binder.

Awesome green cobbs....

Those are about as sound of an investment in baseball cards as you can make

Holy Schmoly...however the two cards in the upper right ruin the pattern of your display. Please eliminate this blight upon common decency post-haste by sending them to me and I will dispose of them properly.

Great thread, guys! From the card Pete used to start it, to rareback's amazing horde, this thread has it all.

I got back into collecting cards around '98, thanks in part to the McGwire/Sosa HR chase and the advent of eBay.

I was checking my spreadsheet the other day, which has all my graded cards listed. I did a sort by "date of purchase", and was surprised to see that this Green Cobb was the first ever "vintage" graded card I bought after re-entering the hobby. It was the early part of 2003, and up to this point all of my purchases were modern cards.

By March of '03, the luster of buying cards of known cheaters had worn off (sigh), and thanks in part to this forum and CU, I had gotten the itch to buy something older. Much older.

So this Cobb popped up on my eBay search, and I waited for the evening to place my manually timed snipe (this was before the days of sniping services).

I was high bidder on the auction (YES! ), but it didn't meet reserve (SHIT! ) at just over $1K ( this was 2003). I was bummed, but the seller relisted the card a week later with no reserve, and I won the auction for real this time, with the final bid actually being slightly lower than the week before.

After this card, I was hooked -- 95% of my future card purchases were vintage. Crazy to think I've had this card for 14 years now. 2 small surface wrinkles on the front, to the right of Cobb's head, account for the grade.

Default Cobb salad

I'm a budget Cobb guy. I got the green one thinking it would probably cross over with a 'poor' grade (it did) but I didn't care too much. It looks nice with the rest of the Cobb family. Plus, all four of them combined cost me about what one SGC 40 or PSA 3 green Cobb currently goes for all by itself.

Great looking quartet. I'd rather have four lower graded, but nicely centered Cobbs like yours than high grade, off-centered.

Sadly, I no longer have the Green T206 Cobb or other T206s from this collage but at least I still have his Green E98 to enjoy.
