I post this way too much, but it is easily my favorite beater and it fits the thread.

It's got about every technical flaw.

This is honestly the coolest card I've seen on this board. Don't you have the E107 Plank, Young and a few others too?

Hard to pick just one, but I settled on this. My first T206, Polar Bear back.
And yes, the entire upper left corner is nearly off along the crease that edges into his head. if not for the tape it would probably have come off by now.

Also in the running - 69 Jackson rookie -my first card. and a T206 red cobb Carolina Brights.

Matt,

Here's another beater Chase for you. This one is a type 2 coupon and was a gift to me from another collector who thought my beater filled collection would be a good home for it. I guess that's a compliment on some level.

He actually gave me a handful of coupons just like this one. I've passed some along over the years to other like minded collectors (as gifts, just as I received them). I love this thread.

Best,

AndyH

Maybe not quite beaters in all cases. Sorry about adding other cards, but these are old scans. The Jackie is the true beater of the bunch. I threw in my old 1970 Cuda too for good measure. Sold it and found it listed on ebay (matched the VIN to old records) almost 10 years later. looking much worse!!!

My favorite beater and on some level card, is what I lovingly call Exorcist Bill Dahlen, due to the incredibly well-placed ink stain.

Dahlen Personal

I'm a big fan of cards that have lived a good life. Funny story here is that the first time I saw the card, it was paired with a very rough Brown Hindu Harry Bay before I was certain I was going to collect the Southern Leaguers. I ended up as the despondent underbidder on the card, thinking I would never see Exorcist Bill Dahlen again.

Fortunately, the winner of the lot was primarily concerned with the Brown Hindu Bay and four weeks later, Exorcist Bill Dahlen has arrived at his final resting place in my collection.

I am so glad I started this thread! What great cards and plus anybody can play! Even the richest dude on here has a beater as well as those of us that love cards, but have modest incomes. Keep them coming! I would be proud to own any of the cards shown.

That red Hindu had the same owner as my first page beater, a locally famous folk singer in key west collected them and passed them on to his caretaker. Recently she became sick and needed funds and a friend sold them. There is a second br hindu owned by a board member.

Default Change to title

I changed the title to say favorite "beaters". We all have so many we love and beaters need a place to be shown off!

This is one of my favs, because I won it for one dollar on the Bay! If anybody has a T206 they want to sell me for one dollar I am your man.

I just sold a Donlin "with bat" that had a red Hindu back (SGC 40) for over $1800 for my grandmother. I turned around and bought this beater replacement for $12.50.

Long live the beaters!
