I wanted to apologize for not responding sooner... I am out of town in Minnesota for the Asphalt Recycling and Reclaiming Association convention - so not much access to my computer. I wanted to say thank you for the kind remarks and I will post the list of sources hopefully later today.

I have more I will post and please feel free to add more articles if anyone has anything they would like to add.

excellent post! Thanks for sharing. I concur with Leon. I was thinking these were the types of things happening today to attain these coveted cards we so enjoy! I had no idea that this sort of corrupt and dubious behavior occurred over a century ago for these very same cardboard treasures!

Must have been hard for kids to get these cards unless some family or friend member purchased the packs to smoke or had tons of money to buy a single card.
People that smoked where no even interested in the cards but the kids wanted them.
