An Old Newbie
Like several posts I've read, I've been using this site to gain info on cards and read interesting collecting stories. I've recently retired and am now trying to better organize what I've got. I've been collecting since the early 60's but as life goes, I still have some of the cards and who knows where the others are. I'm a big Cardinals. In the early 80's we built a house and in the moving process I discovered my old cards and that got me started again. Initially started putting Cardinal team sets together. Fortunately, even as late as the 1980's you could buy pretty decent Dean, Frisch, and Hornsby cards without have to take out another mortgage. As I got back into the more rare stuff--some of which I'm still looking for--I also began finishing some of my Topps sets I had as a kid. Growing up in the South, I came to realize we never saw those high number packs, so finishing meant mainly buying the highs.
I've put together a pretty comprehensive list on Cardinals team sets back to the early 1900's if I can be of any help to anyone. Still have a few unanswered sets, like the M101-6 Felix Mendelsohn set. Not sure if Cruise, Meadows, and Shotton are Cardinals or not. I enjoy collecting but I also really enjoy learning about the sets. I still grab a set of Topps every year, but my passion is the old stuff.
I posted a pic of Musial yesterday. The pic is the same as his Bond Bread card, complete with the facsimile but it's too big (8x10) to be a Bond Bread premium. Don't have a clue what it is and am looking for help. Thanks to you guys who over the years have helped answer some of my questions on my collecting journey.
