In your opinion, what is the most recognizable T205?
Wagner is to T206 as ________ is to T205.
Matty? Joss? Cobb? Hobby? ? Thanks Last edited by T206.org; 07-12-2011 at 03:03 PM. |

Matty...
I'm going with the Mathewson over Cobb because of the cool script signature instead of the printed name.....and I like the image better, as I think it's more iconic, but that's just my opinion.

Don't collect this issue, but the Cobb card always stands out to me. Not sure there is a card as iconic as Wagner (or close to it), though.

tough question...not sure if any of those t205's compare. all are very recognizable to me...for me seeing the hobby stirs intrigue as without seeing the back...there's no way to know if it's special...or not!

Matty, in my opinion. Though I don't have a good argument to back it up

Matty and Joss came to my mind after seeing the subject title.

Matty is most recognizable. Cobb is second. Joss the most interesting.

Matty, its one of the iconic pre-war cards imo, great lithograph/photo.

It has to be the Cobb. The Frank Baker is a classic also.

I think I'd also have to go with Cobb.

I think the National League 205s blow away the American League. I put Matty and McGraw on the top of my list.

I have a puppy in this fight...while I think the Matty card might be the best answer to Trae's original question , the Joss card is the total package to me.
It's the avatar I use on this board, i have for a few years now...no intent on ever changing. T205 is just awesome and totally underrated. Wagner who?

I will have to say the Matty is the most recognized of the T205's. For the simple reason that the pic is used in so many other items in the hobby. The Cobb and Joss aren't.
There is nothing in the T205's that compare to Wagner. I sure hope that the set doesn't have an overrated, blown out of proportion, over priced, not even that uncommon kind of card. |

Thanks, everyone - Matty wins by a long shot at this point.
(realizing now I should've started a poll) I'm almost finished with T205 gallery mobile app and needed to figure out who should be on the icon that opens it. Matty it is! |

Seeing the thread title, the first one that came to mind for this non-collector of them was the Matty.
Seeing the Cobb and Joss posted later in this thread, I recognized their images, but the Matty is by far the most recognizable one (or at least the most easily recalled) in the set to me. |

As soon as I read the title, the Matty card was my answer.
As a subset, the Tinker/Evers/Chance is recognizable to me as I have a poster with those 3 on it as well as other vintage items.

T205 Matty--good looking unless you are seeing double
The Matty "looks good in any condition" mostly holds true, but my decent overall condition example has a slight printing offset that gives Matty a teary eyed, super wrinkly bags under the eyes, just got up with a hangover look...a little distracting.

I'd have to say the Cobb, just because it's been on the front cover of so many collector books and auction catalogs over the years.

I also go with Matty, I believe a reprint of the card was also inserted in the 2011 Topps
Now double checking they also had a T205 Cobb and Young in the 30 card set |

Easy choice
Cobb and Matty are ok. If you're talking "recognizable," however, I'd have to go with Barney Pelty or Orval Overall. Simply the best.

Wow, you all got this one wrong!
The real answer (for me, anyway) is the Zach Wheat!!!
Matty and Cobb are probably the most popular, but there is no mistaking the classic artwork of the Wheat Simply fantastic...
