BGS cards without subs
I have noticed a fair number of BGS cards like this one where the flips don't appear to have subgrades on either the front or back. I was surprised because I thought subgrades were what BGS was all about. Are these new, old, and how common is this?

It's been a submission option for modern cards for about a year now. They stopped putting subgrades on BVG cards maybe 4-5 years ago.

Yeah I remember hearing this . I would always want the subs. I wish psa had this option.
I still have not figured out what the black label are all about .

BGS black labels are for BGS 10 Pristines where all subgrades are 10. If you had a card graded to them having black labels (about 2 years ago), you can send them back in for a reholder and they'll give you the black label this time.

They just recently starting offering the no sub-grades and just the overall grade at a reduced cost.
Personally, the sub-grades are what sets them apart from PSA and they should also put them back onto vintage cards as well. I honestly think if they came up with a revised vintage grading scale policy i.e. not the same policy of only .5 to 1.0 above the lowest sub as they do on modern cards AND printed subs on the cards, they really could make some headway on the vintage market. By not doing so, it's a "Where's Waldo" on the flaws of the card outside of obvious characteristics like centering. |
