Big assumption, believing it sold.

My guess is it did sell. No issue with that sale (assuming no bidding shenanigans). That said, I have seen other real sales too, when truly hand cut cards which literally could have been cut yesterday get sold for so much money. Don't the buyers understand it is a strip card and the number grade is mostly irrelevant? Of course it has to be a nice strip card to start with....

And a strip and some others from my last collection (which I seem to be acquiring back.) I think I see 3 10s.....

Never underestimate the power of the registry! Sometimes it seems like those numerical grades are more valuable than gold, platinum, one's reputation, kids...

The answer to most crazy questions as has been stated many times is usually "money", in some shape or form. Add to that the ego thing, and generally some folks with a lot of discretionary income, and you have a recipe for success. I have nothing against any registry except for the fraudulent cards (outed here and elsewhere) in the sets the sets in them. Caveat Emptor has never been more true in our hobby. If you are experienced it might be wise to trust yourself as much or more than an opinion on a slab. The 2 major TPGs for vintage have absolutely no clue what is hand cut and what isn't with respect to strip cards. (W503, W575-1, etc....) The problem nowadays is many collectors don't realize the self imposed issue of cut strip cards. (whether they were cut the day sent in for grading or 90 years ago (or both ). It really doesn't help for those TPG's to continue to perpetuate falsehoods. So be it. I sort of feel like Chuck T. so will get back off my soapbox.

Agree with this 1,000% percent, maybe even more. Glad that so many people can enjoy the hobby in so many ways. And if it's through the registry, more power to them - even through that isn't something that doesn't do it for me at all and if sometimes baffles me that people will go to such efforts to acquire some cards.
