Default Rationale for your username

I've seen quite a few interesting usernames on this site over the years and some I haven't been able to figure out.

Two things triggered my desire to start this thread:

(1) during the inaugural Net54 '54 Topps set break webcast, Nick said usernames when declaring the winners of each card, but said "Derek" for my two wins

(2) the recent passing of Anthony resulted in me looking up DB Cooper on Google and learning about events/people that happened/existed before I came into this world. Anthony's use of DB Cooper as his username and the significance of it was completely foreign to me, but probably not to those of you who were alive during the time.

Perhaps you have a story to tell too?

Unfortunately, mine is pretty boring, but maybe you were wondering what in the world h2oya311 stands for. Quite simply, I was a swimmer at Georgetown University back in the late '90s. H2o = water, Georgetown = hoyas ; combine them and there you have it. ...oh and my bday is 3/11. No, I'm not a die-hard 311 fan, although I love the song "Amber", and no, I'm not a member of the kkk (3x 11th letter in the alphabet), or the gang from Las Vegas.

And if you ever asked yourself: "what is a Hoya?", you've simply answered your own question.

I always use my real name on the internet as it's a minor pet peeve of mine to see anonymous ramblings from behind a keyboard. But to each their own. I guess I should come up with some cool user id and still have my name in my signature line. Maybe later....

Thanks Andy - I completely missed that thread...I thought I was coming up with something original when apparently I was a few months late to the game.

There are still MANY out there who have not yet shared. I am very interested...

Not too hard to figure mine out!

jimi = my name
vintage = my love for vintage cards

My pic stems from when I collected the T206 McGraw back run....so I should probably change that one of these days.

.....and for what it's worth, I missed that thread on avatars, too, Derek!

Except for the fact that most of us also make our real names visible (as requested by the Grand Poo-Bah of this forum) for all to see, in which case an anonymous screen name is hardly anonymous.

As far as why I chose the screen ID "Auggiedoggy" is concerned? I created the name (READ: ripped off from an old cartoon TV series) when I bought my first puppy, a Norwegian Elkhound. I wanted a canine-related screen ID so I went with a blast from the past - my past. Hence the name Auggiedoggy. The avatar is slightly confusing to those too young to remember the cartoon. The small dog is actually Auggie. The larger dog is his father, Doggie Daddy. My second reason for choosing this ID was that I wanted something mature and dignified. Something that reflected my true character.

Hey Derek, I was a swimmer too. That is actually where my User ID comes from. My coach gave me the nickname Voodoo Child (eventually became just Voodoo) when I was 12. He said the lyrics of the Hendrix song "I stand up next to a mountain and I chop it down with the edge of my hand" reminded him of the way I swam. Unfortunately, that was the age of my last growth spurt and my swimming career burned out in High School. It did lead to life-long appreciation of Hendrix's music though which is why I still continue to use it online.

At Cubs camp, they called me Kenny Mac so shorten it to Kmac and 32 was my uniform number so together.

Mine is dull. When I set up my first ever e-mail account I naively chose the address hrosen@hotmail.com. At that time there were evidently 37 other H Rosen's who had the same idea so hotmail suggest the 38. Occasional memory lapses force me to use similar e-mail/log-in names for all of my non-financial accounts so I have simply stuck with the 38.

I used my first name back on the Full Count Board, but it seems like John was a common name back in the early part of this century, so I switched to my Ebay handle, which is really my dad's ebay name. So basically my name since before we switched over from FCB to Net54 has been my dad's ebay name. He likes Camaros, his initials are JD, not much else to it.

Mine is completely non-collecting related. It's Beatle related. Darkhorse was George Harrison's record label and #9 is John Lennon a nod to John Lennon.

Mine is my NTN trivia handle for the last 18 years. It's a character from the E. M. Forster book A Room With A View, George Emerson (G M R SON).

My handle is derived from the fact that I am both an avid cyclist as well as an avid collector of cards form the era (1950s-60s) that was likely the most popular era to have had kids put cards into their bicycle spokes. You will find no cards in any of my spokes though.

Yours is one of my favorites!
Mine is pretty self explanatory. I love Campy for overcoming the struggles in his life, both before and after the accident.
Great thread.

Someone hacked my eBay account many years ago and changed my username to "Bestdj777." I am not a DJ, and, if I was, I probably wouldn't the best. But, I wanted to keep my Net54 username consistent.

Since I was a kid, no one has ever called me Darren. It's always been Elm or Elms, which is short for Elmo, a nickname I acquired for no rational reason whatsoever. Jolly Elm is a play on the Jimmy Buffett song, "Jolly Mon."

Mine comes from the first prewar set I started collecting combined with it's first year of issue and at the time my girlfriends initials, I used it to create my ebay ID and kept it for here.

My ebay id has since changed to t2069bs as we got married 15 years ago!!

The 1971 Bucs were the coolest and most diverse group of men my 8 year old eyes ever saw. They still are. My user ID reflects that opinion.

This is predominantly a pre-war place, but what would you think of a "Best MLB Afro of the 70s" thread?

In 2000 I tried to get University of Wisconsin vanity plates with FKM BKY. Translates to Fu#% Em Bucky. Unfortunately the one smart person at the DMV saw it and nixed the idea. It then became a common interweb user name for me.

Mine is a play on words. I have twin boys. In no way is it related to the team from MN. My avatar is Ban Johnson Field in Hot Springs, AR. Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Mel Ott, and others had spring training there.

Mine is pretty easy to figure out. It's the url for where I posted my T206 pics, why and how I got into collecting, etc. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to finish putting up the scans.

Default user name

Mine is the same as my eBay user name. When I set up my eBay account 12 years ago I didn't expect to do much business on the site, so I just chose the name of the high school where I worked so I could bid on a few cards.

Even though I retired this year I would never change it now. The name and the school have been very good to me.

Best regards,

Joe

Alex,
I don't smoke, but since I joined here, your username has always made me wish I could travel back in time, just so I could chain smoke Uzits, Drums, and Broad Leafs.

Why not, then we could heckle kids to smoke their own cigarettes if they want the cards.

Giants fan.....in the late 80s, Candlestick crowds would chant back and forth "oooo" and "rebay" for SS Jose Uribe. I loved those late 80s teams.

I wanted ooo-rebay for ebay but you can't have ebay in your name
