This seller has not bought or sold anything in the last 5 months and now he has 2 high $ cards for sale. I did not want to out any auction but in his description he says NO paypal but has a paypal account required to buy. And the kicker is....you are only protected up to $200 by paypal.

For what its worth, both cards were scanned with the same or very similar scan settings, style, and quality. Thats a good sign.

Sometimes sells say no PayPal, because they dont want to lose that good chunk of change PayPal will take for the transaction. I would consider doing that too for a high $$ card.

Front and back might not be the same card. Front pic is obviously crooked against the bar on left side but back shows it even. Could have been an adjustment, but why not adjust before the front pic. Plus it's a blurry pic. I'd wait for the next one.

Mark,

Both cards are reprints, in tampered holders, with counterfeit PSA labels.

Tom is right, these are the same craigslist cards.

The way I know how to spot them is the "EX-MT" should have more of a gap between the "EX - MT"

If that didn't ring a bell, here is more proof. The new Cobb auction in question lined up with the previous Gehrig card auction. The bar codes are the exactly same. Hope this helps:

I emailed the guy...i wrote "prove these are your cards, Ebay will shut you down if your are trying to sell fakes or selling re-prints in fake holders".

all of a sudden the auctions have ended.

The 33 Goudey Gehrig in the link in Tom's post above has the same PSA bar code that appears in the fakes posted by Kevin above.

Is there a way for the grading companies to combat this? Trust in the system has been eroding for some time (it's been a few years since the Wiwag scandal), but if tampering with holders and creating fake filps, etc. is this easy, what's the point.

fkw- I am not sure the "EX - MT" with spaces versus without spaces is solid proof. When I saw a thread with that same theory some months ago I checked all of my PSA graded cards (a sample of about 100). There were several printed "EX-MT" with no space- but I have no reason to believe they are fakes- most were not even high value cards. I thought maybe they were older slabs and so I contacted Joe Orlando to see what he thought. As with many others I may wait the rest of my life waiting for Joe to answer!

PSA has changed their flip style many times - the space between the grades has been changed as well and cannot be used as an indication of anything.

He states he specializes in PSA graded cards and may have a card you are looking for....

which simply means....tell me what card you want to have made in to a PSA graded fake.

The problem is these cards this person was selling i think is the ones he bought that were changed in there psa holders. I also got beat by this guy from craigslist he has same hand full of cards. but i think people selling on ebay are trying to get rid of these cards either not knwoing they are fakes or just trying noiw to get there money back that they were ripped off for.
