was the sound of collectors everywhere falling over during their mad dash to start digging those PSA 5 T206s out of the safes and drawers.

as outrageous as this seems, there is a reason for everything...

Ganley is one of the tuffest commons (if i can add these new PSA pop reports), it seems like there are only 78 total graded, those are southern leaguer-like numbers...plus only a handful graded 6 and above. most likely a few of my set reg buds at the top of the heap...final price is very high, BUT doesn't blow me away.

edited to add that it also looks like a high-end 5, for whatever that's worth.

i've been too strict with my grading scale then if that's a high end 5.

the winning bidder has bought a couple t206 5s from me in the past, so i'm guessing he's on the registry. I wouldn't call it an anomaly anymore, just registry people fighting for a "tough" card...

I'm stunned. That card went for as much as a Lajoie Throwing 6.

agreed that is an outrageous price, but not behind the realm of possibilty...a few set reg guys fighting over it.

There are always aberrations in the marketplace; we've seen them before and there is usually a reason for it.

If every T206 common in PSA 5 sold for $800+, that would be truly shocking. The fact that one did is just a quirk in the market. Put another one up tomorrow and it might sell for $200. You never know.

P.S.- Jeff, I was getting emails to you bumped back also.

Don't worry about the market place for T206's. If most start selling for $800, rest assured the ones I list in PSA 5's will go for $45 and bring the price back down.

I hope that the employee at PSA who came up with the idea of the Registry got a huge bonus package. It is truly a blessing for PSA and card sellers everywhere. The combination of the internet and the Registry allowing us to microscopically examine and compare our collection to the next guy's has brought "keeping up with the Joneses" to an art form. God Bless America!

That T206 card of Ganley doesn't seem to be terribly scarce, so I too am surprised at that selling price. In any case, the card is gorgeous, it looks like he is standing in a field in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Legacy Sports also does a good job marketing their (or their consignor's) stuff. I wish everyone on eBay would do scans that are that clear, it really helps the buyer make a decision.

Eric you right, the seller is good at "hyping" this card and there are two buyers contending for it,
hence the bidding is way over what this card deserves.

Ganley is not a scarce card by any means. He's a little tougher, simply because he wasn't printed
on usual variety of "350" T-brands (he only exists with a Piedmont 350 back. He is available with
all the 150 Series backs.

But, the real problem here is that this card will set a precedent in its sold price that is unattainable
in future sales of this card. However, it will be used by some sellers as a "new value" to strive for.

It's getting really crazy out there.

Ted, it was really more than just the two buyers this time. Even a fourth bidder went as high as $221, and the third was at $500. I don't get it.....at all.

ted, i always agree (usually) with your posts...but you said, "the seller is good at "hyping" this card"...Legacy does a great job with their auctions, scans, etc., but they did NOT HYPE this card, they didn't even mention one word about it in the auction, just simply had the scans...it was not over-hyped, just several guys went crazy on it, who needed it.

Wouldn't you love to speak to the top two or three bidders and ask them what the thought process was behind their bids? It would at least be informative.

Wow I knew someday my Ganley hoard would pay off. Sure they all laughed at me when I passed on Planks for Bob Ganley….but all I have to say now is checkmate!

All joking aside that’s a crazy price!

That's the rare no dove, glove showing, not-Polar Bear, no-magenta "W" version of the Ganly. $886 is a fair price for such a rarity.
