Default canadian sweet caporal pack?

Posted By: barry arnold

forgive my ignorance.
t206 holy grail collector has a sweet caporal tobacco pack up for sale on
ebay.
he thinks it may be 205 or 206 era but is confused about it since it
is manufactured in canada and has tax stamp from Canada---and is 2X larger
and holds 2X as many cards as standard sweet caporal pack from 205 or 206 era.
any ideas about this?
i'm finally back looking for my tobacco treasures after getting through the
throes of hurricane Dennis and have an itch to buy this for some reason.

i've never owned a pack, obviously.

all the best

Barry

No way. All T-206 cards came in slide & shell boxes with the exception on Polar Bear & Ty Cobb. I seen the auction myself, and laughed when reading his description. Maybe that's why the Wagner card is so rare, it came from a Canadian factory?

Baseball card collectors should realize that non-card tobacco packs, signs, tins, etc are in and of themselves collectable and displayable. The only real issue concerning buying a cardless pack is how much you pay. The problem board members have with the baseball fan paying $1,000 for one of those graded 1919 Sweet Caporal packs is not the pack, but the $1,000 (along with that the seller promotes and the bidder beleive that you can pull T206 Wagner out of a 1919 cigarette pack). If the baseball fan paid $75, these same board members might say, "Nice pack. Will look nice dispaid with your T206s."

I should also say that I find it humorous that there are baseball card collectors who pay a hefty premium for 1919 and 1925 cigarette packs because they were third-party authenticated as unopened. Do these collectors worry that devious sellers break open 1925 packs, sell the cigarettes and loose tobacco as singles and replace them in the pack with cutout Q-tips?

I don't blame the grader. If someone offered me good money to heat seal a box of Mentos in a bologna pack, I might do it too.
