Hey Dave (murcerfan) you better thank your lucky stars you didn't make that bet with me on Bellamy Road versus Afleet Alex. I saw Alex win the Arkansas Derby and knew right then he was the best 3 year old anywhere, PERIOD.
My God, what courage he showed today, almost any other horse would have fallen and probably have had to have been destroyed but to not only finish but to win, the most heart-stopping and courageous moment I have seen in sports in a long, long time.
Leon, I know this is off-topic but what a frigging win....

Bob, that truly was unreal and something I've never seen in any horse race in my life. I have never seen a horse break stride like that -- nearly fall, just inches from the ground -- and not only get it immediately back together but BLEW away the field. Unreal.

I had the exacta and I truly enjoyed that race. The horse showed so much heart and dedication. Would have had the Trifecta if I had any confidence in the Giacomo. Plus the big favorite always wins the Preakness...I think the last seven years.

C'mon tbob, it's not like Bellamy had a chance this race. A matter a fact, he had as good of a chance as Affirmed or Man O'War.

Looking forward to Bob's Blue Sheet Special before the next race.

Note that the top finishers of this year's top stakes races were horses that lost to Declan's Moon. Too bad he was injured. I can't wait til he comes back in September. Who's going to Belmont in 3 weeks?

Yeah, Giacomo split up my tris and supers.

I will include Don't Get Mad in my exotics for The Belmont. But I'll have to see how he runs in the Peter Pan this Saturday.

that Smarty Jones and Afleet Alex were both stabled in Hot Springs, Arkansas in the Spring and ran in the Rebel Stakes and Arkansas Derby (both won) at beautiful Oaklawn Racecourse here.
Bit of an Arkansas connection. The Arkansas Derby winner never gets his due but Tank's Prospect, Lil E Tee, Elecutionist, Pine Bluff, Smarty Jones, Afleet Alex and many, many more have won Triple Crown races.
Hey when you have a mediocre college football and basketball team in the same year, you are glad for horse racing! That and the fact the University of Arkansas AGAIN won the NCAA indoor and outdoor NCAA men's track championships for the zillionth time. Truly the greatest collegiate sports dynasty ever (and probably the least known).
