FS-Frank Shellenback Matted Cut (1919 White Sox)
Very Cool Cut, of a player with a very interesting story...
Shellenback was apparently a successful spitballer who was on a minor league roster when the ban on throwing the spitter was passed down... so it goes, he did not fall under the grandfather clause and could not throw the pitch in the majors... He pitched for Kid Gleason's Sox in 1918 & 1919, and accounts state he may have very well have been involved in the fix had he not been sold to minneapolis late in the 1919 season... In the Minors Shellenback was aloud to throw the spitter... which led him to be one of the best pitchers to ever grace a minor league diamond... Career Minor league Record of 300-179 with a 3.59 era... He also helped discover and Groom Ted Williams while Coaching for San Diego of the PCL Great Piece that is displayed with a copy (Photocopy) of his 1928 exhibit card... Double matted, Dimensions are 8x10 and ready for framing... $40 pp gift shipped |
