Default Who are you...Let everyone know

Hey guys i have been on this site for a few months now and for the 2014 one thing I want to do is become more involved in this community here. Well I figured what better way than having you guys tell a lil bit bout yourself and what you collect. We all see sigs but hey how long you been collecting what got you into it etc. I just figured this will maybe help some newer forum people to get more involved here.

Well let me tell you a bit about me. My name is Jesse and I am 29 years old from MA and been collecting ever since i could remember. My uncle got me into the hobby in the late 80's early 90's. I used to be involved with the newer cards and recently went back to what I used to collect which is 1960's and earlier. I have been in and out of this hobby for years. I collected the t205 set before I sold it a few years back. All PSA graded man do I regret it. Oh well its time for this guy to start fresh. I decided to attempt the 34 Goudey Set all PSA 5+ grades. I also am picking up some polar bear t205's and trying to put the 38 Goudey Heads Up set. I love this hobby and really love to be able to one day have some of the collections I have seen on here. Anyway i do enjoy other things besides collecting. I went to school for graphic design and do art work on the side. I guess that's a reason i love the 38 Heads Up set and the early pieces the art that they actually put into the cards.

I hope others may put a lil blog together here. Can't wait to meet and become more involved with this community

Welcome aboard "Member"...I recommend adding your name to make the xp more fun!

I'm 36 and also live in MA. I went to Georgetown and was on the swim team (hence my name of h2o + Hoya). I bet you could guess my birthday! Moved to MA after college for a girl...6 or so girlfriends later, I finally landed one that stuck (mostly b/c she is okay w/ my hobby interests). We've been married about 5 years and now have a 7-1/2 month old son.

I love numbers and spent many a day/night looking at stats on the back of my '86 Topps cards growing up in Houston, TX. I never cared for older stuff much because no one I knew was into baseball card collecting. Then, around 2002, I was poking around eBay and found some cards...decided to collect all the guys in the 3,000 hit club. To finish, I needed a Cap Anson card, and the rest is history...

Changed my focus to HoF rookie collecting (the real "monster") starting in 2003...took a few years off, but I've been bitten by the bug again and now I can't stop. 2013 has been a HUGE year for me...hope to slow down a bit in 2014 and trim down some of my collection (Mostly trying to prevent being on the "Hoarders" show).

Looking forward to learning more about other Net54 regulars!!

Default great thread

Hello - I'm 41 years old, a 6th grade math teacher, a father of 3, and addict.

The other day, my wife was looking at our bank account. She said, "Paypal for $40, paypal for $60, paypal for etc... That's $160 you've spent on baseball cards this month. DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM?" I looked her in the eyes and said,"Yes, I'm a baseball card addict. I think I'm going to drop the hobby and pick up cocaine." Nuff said. (Not to mention she had a $50 purse, $60 jacket, $150 jacket on the tab....)

I love the beaters... of course I'd love to have an sgc 84 Lajoie, but even so, I like to look at the SGC 10s. The ones that have been played with by the kid who thought he was the best player back in the day. I used to collect when I was a kid. I played Catcher and 2B, so of course Carlton Fisk and Bobby Grich were my favorites. Who'll remember those guys in the future? Some day, some kid will get my SGC 10 Fisk/Grich scraps and hopefully think of me.

Love the sport, but think that it is dying. They need to do what the NFL does with contracts. Any given year, any NFL team can win the Super Bowl. With baseball, the big market teams win. Any given year, you can predict who is going to win ($$$). Big market teams win, small market teams lose (poor M's). My sons would love baseball if Safeco was rocking. It's been 12 years though...

We just recently had a thread where everybody introduced themselves. Maybe someone remembers when it was and can find it for you.

Cool thread. I'm 37, married, National Sales for Blue Cross Blue Shield. Started collecting when I was younger, quit when I went to college, played baseball in college, hit a HR off a future HOF(?), hit a HR in my last college AB, came within one game of going to the 64 team tourney (twice), cried like a baby (twice). I now play ultra-competitive softball and won my first World Series this year in Oct. in the elite division. I'm also an avid poker player at my local casino and a semi-professional gambler (I only lost 3x during the entire baseball season, and have yet to have a losing week in college/pro football this year since Labor Day (I'm sure I completely just mushed myself!) and have been banned by 2 bookies: a badge of honor to me, haha).

Started collecting again in about 2003 while looking thru old cards that I had and came across a George Mullen portrait that I bought when I was 12. I now collect T206s, T206 autographs, T206 player bats (i have 8: Dolly Stark, Roy Brashear, Pat Moran, Harry Davis, Fred Snodgrass, George Stone, Gavy Cravath, Art Fletcher), and old stadium seats (i have 3: Forbes Field, Shibe Park, Ebbets Field). I need about 50 more T206's to complete my set.

The end.

I remain around the corner out of sight. You will not see or hear me. My stash is well hidden and those who know are sworn to secrecy. Tread softly and when walking eastward, I will favor your left shoulder. When you least expect it, I will appear, but I am also able to disappear in an instant. You are never safe. Is this a threat or a promise? It will be too late when you find out. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!

Hi, good to meet you!

I am 65, now i only buy Yankee cards but also have other New York old cards in all sports.

Love pre-1960 cards the best, and right now am dying to find a T207 Hoff to complete my Yankee team set run of T205/T206/T207. I collect all conditions, better to have a card in lessor condition than not to have it due to not being able to afford a great condition card.

I have an enormous amount of Yankee cards from 1906 thru current, but while i want all the pre-1981 Yankees i can get, from 1981 thru current i only select the ones i really like.

Collect Jewish athlete cards in all sports too, all years. Actually have over 200 different jewish athletes, most people think there havent been that many!! LOL

My name's Frank. I wish my collection had a focus but it doesn't yet. I'm a dabbler.

Outside of cards I'm an aspiring short story writer. I just found out I will be published for the first time in a literary journal due out this Spring. As much as I love cards, getting that issue in the mail with my story inside will be my holy grail and pick up of 2014.

hey all my name is also Jesse. i am also 29. live in CT. friends with Big Six (Matt) who introduced me to the site. i love the hobby but getting married and buying a house has put a major stop to my collecting because women are expensive to keep around but still love reading about all the stuff you all have going on. i collect really only new stuff but haven't bought anything in over a year. actually trying to move all my unfinished sets from the last 4 years. I'm mostly a player collector. wanted to be a set builder but got too excited every time a new set came out. Matt feels i should do the 56 set since i have about 20 of my fathers cards left.
Anyways not to plug myself but if you need any base or inserts from the last 4 years of cards let me know i probably have something your looking for.

I'm 53 and practicing veterinary medicine after being disabled for 3 years by a spinal cord stroke. I collect W572 strip cards and E121 Yankees and Giants along with cards of Elmer Miller who was my great great uncle who played for the Yankees in 1921 and 1922. he was literally the first Yankee to get a hit in a World Series and was the first Yankee to score a run in a World Series.

Hi, Jesse! Good to finally know your name. I'm Bill.

Let's see. I'm a just-turned 42 year old living outside of Dallas, Texas. I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and grew up in the 'burbs of Waukesha, WI.

As to when I started collecting, I got hooked on Topps at a very early age. As a little kid, I'd sit in my friend Carl's bedroom (RIP, Carl), and we'd look at the 1979 Topps Milwaukee Brewers. I got hooked on the hobby, and my love of baseball just kicked into high gear. The Brewers were really good then, mind you, so it was easy being a mini cheesehead cheering for Bambi's Bombers, and Harvery's Wallbangers. I kept on collecting until about 1991 or 1992, and I just got sick of the overproduced crap that saturated the hobby. Then, about three years ago or so, I decided to start collecting again. I started out with modern cards, and in the last year plus, I've begun getting into pre-war and vintage. So, that's where I sit now.
