Default T205 Freaks

Leon's T205 Walsh (pink base path) got me hankering to see some T205 freaks. I used to have a great Reulbach, which I'm sure someone here can produce.

Currently only have this one - just a ghosting issue. Unfortunately I can't get a larger scan to upload here, but I'll work on it.

That scrap multi strike Broadleaf in Goodwin was killer. I have to stop searching only for T206s

Leon, that Mitchell reminds me of my 'T205 Matty' reprint project. In an effort to figure out better how the gold border was printed, I created my own card sheets with yellow borders, and painted the gold on with a gold Sharpie. It was amazing how similar they looked to real cards, but since I did it with hand, they were sloppy.

To me, this Reulbach scrap gives us a lot of insight into the printing process, but given my recent flub on the T206 sheet number issue, I'll leave it to the T205 experts to elucidate at their leisure.

Jason,

That is one sweet card!

An oddity that I no longer own:

All from the same sheet accompanied with miscut backs (notice the top borders):

Default Brown/Shean combo

Interesting Brown/Shean combo miscut. I have seen VERY few "2 player" T205 miscuts. I believe that they are far scarcer than the T206 counterparts.

Default T205 freaks

Hi guys,
My name is Mike and I'm an avid T205 collector and although I've posted a few times on the BST board I don't believe that I ever (possibly once or twice) posted here. Love reading all the informative posts and I figured it's time that I might add a few even with my limited knowledge. Not going to reveal my age but Stan Lopata was my favorite Phillie. Who else here can say (or wants to) that? Not sure that my entry below is really a freak but it has to have one of the widest gold borders that I've seen. My first attempt at scanning so be patient.

Default wet Lord

I didn't capture the greatest scan of this (wet sheet transfer?) Harry Lord T205 freak, but in person its much more evident. The red ink is certainly bleeding through or came from another AL card...whatever designation the printing gurus would like to call it...
Anyway, here 'tis in all its glory...A Wet , Harry D. Lord:

Hey Scott

Here's another Eddie Collins (mouth open)......the adjacent back indicates that this card was Double-Printed on it's sheet.

I picked up these two cards in recent weeks.

this was already shown earlier in the thread:

...and this one:

The Flynn didn't seem like a printing incident because it seemed to flow with the wrinkles/creases and you can see it in some of the loss of the gold. Then I received the Beck and saw that it, too, showed pink in the gold loss also. If these aren't printing freaks they look like they could have happened at the same time. The Beck convinces me more that the Flynn may also be one.

So what happened did some magenta spill onto the press?

I agree that these look stained well after printing. The fact that the pink is visible where the gold has worn off on the edges and is a deeper color in the creases is a major clue.

Somebody spilled something on them after they were well-loved.

That was my opinion too Jay. Then I got confused because it looked like the magenta seemed to be under parts of some printing and the straight lines of some of the edges.

The crease on they Flynn is the biggest indicator that it was done afterwards, but then I thought maybe it looks darker because the under media got so soaked, and now that the under coating is showing it looks darker there.

This card seems to have a RED Sweet Caporal transfer on the front of Gasper. Yet the reverse is a black Sweet Caporal reverse.

This may be hard to see on some monitors, but if your monitor has great contrast you should see what I am trying to show. The name may be hard to make out above his head, but the border should be very obvious going through the top gold.

I had conceded that this was a stain after the fact, UNTIL I was looking at the scans again today.

I noticed that the Darker Yellow seems to avoid the pink. The pink over flow is very dark on the surrounding spots but not on where the yellow was laid down. I am now starting to think the reason it shows on the crease so much is because the white paper is showing through that was soaked heavily by the pink somewhere during the printing process (maybe a spill) then when the rest of the plates printed their respective colors it pushed the ink out of the way and printed on top of it this would also explain how it halos the head so well, but crackles on the face area.

So what you are saying is that the card stock was damaged prior to being printed? The pink ink was spilled in the middle of the process and the other colors laid over it? This would have not made it into production or would it? A fine line between scrap and just a card with some extra ink on it. Ones worthless and the other is priceless. Go figure. I am no T205 expert so I will let those guys chime in when they can

I really don't know. Like I said I had conceded that it happened after printing because I only looked at the fact that some of the white where there was paper loss from heavy creasing was now pink. It wasn't until I really looked at the rest of the pattern left by the pink that I realized that it seems impossible for a "spill" to miss certain things they way it just happens to perfectly outline the head. Again, to me it is strange that it would stain the light yellow but not seem to effect the darker yellow (though point sampling in PS does show that there was an alteration made to the color).
