Default Help with Vintage Uniform

I am looking for any information anyone might have about this uniform. Both the jersey and pants show use, with soiling at the cuffs and thinning at the knees.

The jersey is the intriguing part, as the interlocked 'NY' is dark and the outline is white. I may be missing something, but I haven't been able to locate a similar look, even in vintage images.

Anyone have any idea(s)?

Thanks, Skip

Are there any tags? If yes, what do they say?

No tags, no number, no identifying marks that I can locate. The buttons on the pants fly are different than the ones on the jersey. I first thought it was a salesman's sample, except for the wear, and am now wondering if it is a costume uniform.

Not surprising - almost every imaginable combination of designs, letters and backings were used on uniforms. Even if you get a perfect match with existing i.d.'d uniforms, you still can't always be certain it's from the same team.

I once bought a town team uniform and cap. The cap looked exactly like a Cleveland Indians cap from that period (1920's, I believe). I sold it all, and the next thing I know I saw the cap being sold as an authentic Cleveland Indians cap by a major auction house. I also once had a 1950's leather football helmet that matched up perfectly with Notre Dame's helmet, but wasn't. Same deal - I called an auction house and was told that it would be authenticated as a real Notre Dame helmet.

That's all I'm saying.

Thanks, Scott. You are right. I find unis fascinating. There's DNA in there somewhere (ha!), but something about the game being played in one adds so much to it, and the wonder about who wore it...
