Default The ones that got away

Are there any auctions that you stopped just short on, and always regretted?

Mine was that lot of huge Van Oeyen HOF'ers that Mastro sold back in 2004. I was either the under-bidder or the under-under-bidder. Always regretted not going higher. Do any board members own any of these?

2004 Van Oeyen treasure trove

What a superb group of images.

The Wahoo Sam appears to be the source of his T3. Were any others used for cards Scott?

God, those are GORGEOUS. And original Van Oeyens don't come around very frequently.

His T206 too.

That would have been a nice score if you had won those Scott.

I was fortune enough to find two Van Oeyen photos at the 2009 National. Neither the seller or I knew anything about Van Oeyen. Just another case of me getting hit by dumb luck.

Interesting mention of the Van Oeyens, because the first auction lot I remember buying and really wondering/worrying what the heck I had just done was a collection of 12 press passes issued by the Cleveland team to Van Oeyen. They were part of the Halper sale that was online only, and I can vividly remember sitting at work, repeatedly clicking on the "bid" button until I was the higher bidder and the auction ended. At the time it was the most money I ever had spent on an auction lot. I can't tell you how many times since then I've thought how fortunate that on that night I bid first and asked questions later and didn't let it get away, because this was a group of which there was only one.

These were in the Halper sale in online bidding only...someone just kept outbidding me and to this day I regret not bidding higher...I wonder what happened to them?
