Default Problematic card, slab and price

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-11-T206...item3cc6c23c5b

I recognize that the TPGers are human and all companies have made errors, but

1. Why does the flip say Tolstoi?

2. Should a "4 back" variation receive a numerical grade or should it receive an "Authentic"?

3. Is this puppy really worth $795.00? Are any of you miscut collectors going to jump on this one at that price?

4. I've chimed in negatively on threads regarding cracking slabs to let cards breathe, but this is a slab that even I would crack, but not for respiratory concerns.

Hi Frank, the "3" looks about right to me. The price is about 20x more than I think it's worth, but someone will probably pay at least a couple of hundred dollars for it. As for the Tolstoi label at least they got the correct issue. I have one that the company didn't even get the correct ACC# and claim it's the no team variation, kind of funny since Boston National is pretty hard to miss.

what a joke He has out decline on the BO set right by the BIN. Is it really worth that much I was thinking 100-150? Am I close?

My semi-trained gut tells me it's about 2x-3x your high estimate but I have been wrong before.

The front looks a bit out of register. And that bottom edge at the left doesn't appear perpendicular to the left edge. I'd like to get a better look at it because it might be slightly trimmed. The back is interesting. He may well list it at that and sell it for $500, I'd not pay $100 for it, so it may well be worth about $200. He thinks he has a treasure, so it may well cost a bit to get it.

Oddly enough, as much as I dislike TPG, I do have a soft spot for the obvious mistakes on the slips. Contrarian that I am, I'd leave this one slabbed because it's obviously wrong.

My offer last night was auto declined. If this goes for 1/2 of what he is asking I still think its too much. I have a nice sov350 similar to this that I'd gladly let go for $750

Boston National won less than 30% of their games in 1911 finishing 54 games behind. I guess that qualifies for the "no team" designation.

Check out this Beckett auction on eBay. It's an N172 Kelly graded a 4 but has writing on the front of the card. If you look closely there is writing on the top left of the card, near where the Old Judge logo is. This card has been graded by Beckett and is being sold by Beckett. The description does not say anything about the writing on the front of the card.

Looks like writing on the negative for the photo. Not the card.

Interesting. I just did a quick Google search and it seems like some of the Kelly portraits carry the writing and some don't. The card must have been printed from 2 different negatives of the same image.

Oh wait I see the difference. The Boston cards don't carry the writing. The Chicago cards do. My mistake.

That may be true, but this is a 1914 or 1915 issue as Evers didn't start playing for the Braves until the 1914 season. I believe they won the WS that year.
It looks like they didn't get anything correct on the flip except the player's name.

Default sold?

It looks like the original card posted might have sold for $300...which to me was about right.
