Default Random Encounters with Net54 Memberrs

There is a lot of discussion about how we all enjoy talking with one another at shows (Chantilly this week-end, the National always). But, have any of you had random encounters with other Net54 members? Meetings in venues that have little, if anything to do with baseball?

I had my first one yesterday. As my wife and I were leaving the Georgia O'Keeffe show (Phillips Collection in Washington, DC), I saw a tall, thin young guy with long hair. Sure enough, it was Zach Rice and after a few polite words about art, we launched into an IMPORTANT subject--T209s. My wife's eyes began to roll--she was defenseless and hungry in an art museum--and Zach and I agreed to talk later. Baseball cards and art--it don't get any better than that, Bubba.

Have any of the rest of you had similar encounters with Net54ers?

Cheers, Mike

I picked up a lovely girl one night in a bar...I was so surprised to find out it was Dan McKee, needless to say we talked cards all night!

I met Leon in a smoked meats restaurant in Dallas. Actually, I was visiting Beckett and they treated to me to lunch, and Leon knew I was in town so dropped by for a minute.

The funny thing is several months later I mentioned in passing to the head of grading that I was a vegetarian. He felt terrible, apologized and said he should have asked. I assured him that it was okay, I'm not a zealot about it and will eat a hamburger at the odd grill out or if served at someone's house. And the choice in restaurant was fine with me, considering I was visiting Texas. You don't go to Texas to eat their pickled herring.

I met cwazy (Chris W) for lunch a few times. We try to hit about once a month if work permits. 1 other I am trying to get lunch with.

BTW If there are any other board members in the KC area other than the 3 I know of lets get together for lunch. I am sure with a weeks notice we could have a small Net 54 dinner for all of us together if there are enough of us.
